@ Mindcontrol:

That second track you posted, the wobble panned to the right really needs to be eq'd. I only listened at a low volume and it seriously did my ear in.

Nice mean vibe going on there, defo some mix issues to deal with, bringing snare out, vocals and lead bit too prominent. Got some potential though

Well, not necessarily making it louder, seemed a bit dullish, muddy, not sure if that was just the other elements drowning it out though, but it was the first thing i noticed upon drop.

EDIT, cant remember the intro vocals, but i was referring to those towards the end of the clip

Ironik--- give those vox a lil cut around 500Hz to freshn em up like, maybe just 2-3 dB. none of ya percussion are forward enough in ya mix, everything sounds pretty wide also. bring ya kick snare & bass to the centre of ya track (mono that shit). Put a compressor on all ya channels.
layer ya snare with something with more highs, and/or add around 3 dB around 8-16Hz to bring em out. shit sounds dull & lifeless... need to clean it up with EQn & stereo placement. also add some reverb to ya hats, snare & shit!!

massive ideas, & when ya clean it up.... will sound chea as.

bro its taken me a year of studying to give that kind of advice. I have noticed a dramatic improvement in my own productions too.
If ya serious about sound, ya gota learn what makes everything do what it does, & then ya gota practice what ya have learnt.

it can be easy to make something catchy... the hard part is.... making it sound professional (im not quite there).
google spatial imaging, check out the moneyshot thread in here. read the production bible too!!
other than that... work on ya mixdowns hard!!

do this bro & you will progress FAST AS!!!

bro... you sound design is fukn mean!!! but your letting yaself down in afew areas ay.

in that first track... bring katys vox out more in the mix, theres that change about quarter of the way thru... i duno what instrument it was.... but its to loud ay, bring it down abit. Then we come to ya drums... sounds good when ya have ya bass rolls & shit, build ups are amazing, have you played around with d&b?? cause ya sound would be kick ass with breaks ah. but ya dubstep drums are pretty shit!

I reckon ya should concentrate on D&B... ya got it sorted!

I kinda like using unconventional ideas in production though man; it serves a purpose as being nicve and wide, so the power delivery of the drop is stronger.

Cheers for the feedback though, good to know people's thoughts.

Started this track this morning too; I've been banging out the ideas recently. It's proper trippy so brace yourself. Cheers.

@ Pete Miles & Bradicle comments on the cloud

My latest WIP. Started work on it this morning. Tried to get a clean low end worked a fair bit on the low EQing.
Obviously the drums need varying up and the synths need a bit of work.
Any coments welcome, would prefer tham on soundcloud but it's up to you guys,

There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres.

Thanks man, glad you dig.

Only listened to the first track of yours, really like that appregiated synth, but with that you need far more percussion to complement it. Something really shuffly with loads of energy, not a cymbal/ride every one or 2 bars. Coming along nice though man.

Dj ranes.... intro sounds like a train stuck in a glitch tunnel. then it gets boring as fuck. Theres like nothing happening but a glitch train saying nah nah na nah nah. ooohhhh a change at 2mins. its still shit tho. why the fuck would you even post this up? its like a long drawn out headache. I dont even know what genre this is... but it def aint no part of the millions of dubstep subgenres.

I do feel like a tnuc for saying all this.... just hope it strives to push yourself more!!

You know what, harsh isnt even the word, total knobbish reply really, wouldve been better off saying nothing at all.

I bet most peoples work sounds something like Ranes' when first starting out. Gotta start somewhere right?
