I need to know, cause my tracks are apparently lacking switch ups, but no one can seem to describe to me exactly what they are.
Help please?

Its not a musical term, someone is telling you to make your shit progress more... i.e. it gets boring.

A switch up is a magical effect, just like resampling.

That's not exactly very helpful. I'm still a noob so calling me shit isn't gonna hurt my feelings, I'm just sick of being lame and I wanna progress more.

K... write intro.. play something big for 16 bars... insert gunshot sample and white noise sweep... play something else for 16 bars... play intro again... play something new for 16 bars... insert sound of man being slapped ripped from kung fu movie... play something new for 16 bar... play intro again, fading volume out this time.

You know for the switch ups. Do I cut a bar off the beginning of the next 16 bars or the last bars of the first 16 bars? maybe not a bar but the sample i'm using is one bar long.

Do what ever you want, switch up is just another way of saying variation. And variation is key to keeping peoples interest for longer than 32 bars.
