obviously the crowd were pretty annoying, but you could find places in the crowd where there was space, and the fact of the matter is that kode9 dropped Archangel, joy orbison dropped brkln clln, digital mystikz were just digital mystikz and flylo dropped fucking Fostercare. pure vibes

Your quite right. He's his own person and he has the right to play what he wants. I personally felt it was a bit of a waste to be playing a song thats been heard a million times before, and its not even that good. Suffice to say, i had a bogledjrobyn wrote:if he likes that tune, he can play it? who are you that you can say which tunes can be played by certain djs and which not?!upadeg wrote:And at the end of the day he has no excuse to play pon de floor. NONE WHAT SO EVER.
Yeh i guess i have to agree with that. But as any human being will agree, we all have some sort of expectation when we go to see a dj. This wont be somthing that ill be dwelling on and would relish the chance to see him again. Maybe this time ill keep an open mind and not listen to the hype.blackdown wrote:this sounds like a problem of expectations. you went expecting a "dubstep" set, instead you got kode9, who's made habit of doing exactly what he wants to do, not what people might expect of other DJs...

joy orbison playing fatherless was a highlight for me, only about 30 secs but i enjoyed it nonetheless

I saw Aphex @ WHP in 2007 and it was merely OK. The main problems I found were the absolutely retarded security (who were VERY aggressive, especially on close), the poor soundsystem (way too quiet) and the fact the actual set was a bit rubbish heh. Crowd was generally ok though and the venue itself was decent (but overcrowded)
Looks like its only got worse over the years. A victim of its own success I spose. They always get epic lineups, but popular names attract a lot of stnuc unfortunately.

Re: Kode 9's set at WHP and the general vibe of the night.
going up to see a mate in Manchester and to go to the warehouse project on the 20th. I thought the lineup looked great, actress, Theo Parrish, Zomby, Four Tet are all some of my favorite artists. This thread has got me abit worried though... Hopefully it wont attract any idiots. All of Kode 9's set's ive seen have been on point. His set at brainfeeder I thought was on my favorites Ive seen in a long time interesting selections and great mixing, its great to hear eski beats on a system when he plays them.

security were pricks kicked me out because (in my mans words) what are u doing with a big rizla (?) system was swag (so glad dmz is on this week) however joy orbison was sick as was flylo. the crowd were jokes and of course northern birds.

Re: Kode 9's set at WHP and the general vibe of the night.
yeah I was disappointed with kode 9's set as I am not a house fan really.
I always think the second room is far better at warehouse (mostly coz I like to be right in front of the speakers
) also it is generally less crowded and therefore less full of knob heads. Crowd was especially bad last night I think, very very aggy.
Magnetic man were ok but didn't live up to my expectations. Was a bit stop and start.
DMZ are always large just a shame it was on a rubbish system.
Still had a good night though

Dunno why but i feel like defending the warehouse project. Been too a lot of them since they started, and friday night wasn't the worst by a long shot. There was a bad crowd but what do you expect when everyone there was to see magnetic man. I just went outside for a couple of smokes when they were on, and amazingly walked straight out. Usually the queue is massive for smoking but there was not a single person in it. Came back out for the last couple of songs and a mass exodus happened. The rest of the night i just chilled near the back where i wasn't bothered by dicks, had my own space and was free to enjoy the night. Standard set from DMZ and kode 9 i thought was pretty good.
You can't compare a night like this to DMZ, because they're so far apart.

Re: Kode 9's set at WHP and the general vibe of the night.
Sorry guys i created a new thread about this cos couldnt remember whow as playing heres my 2 cents:
First time poster Hope i dont get flamed for this :S but I had been looking forward to this night for a long long time, and it did nothing but disappoint.
Granted I'm not as into dubstep as i am into drum n bass, i went in on Friday with such a open attitude. I was thinkin to myself, when i hear these dirty wobbles i am gonna rave my face off whether i like it or not. However even though i was in a very good place all night mentally if you know what i mean i just wasnt feeling the tunes! I felt like the venue was awesome, but the sound system really didn't do it justice. Just not enough sound in the main room (maybe i just couldnt get as far forward as i needed to be to get a face full of bass but this surely should have been thought of as part of setup?). I was also really looking forward to magnetic man, but i swear they only played a few songs, and all of them were their own tunes??? Whats up with that... I also do not rate Katy B live. Maybe its also because i go to fabric regularly and am used to their best in the world system?! But then again i went Sankeys on Saturday aswell and thought that place was absoloutly incredible!!! O well thats my 2 cents!
Please feel free to show me the door if you disagree!

I agree that the night was a massive let-down:
The sound was poor (seriously lacking in bassweight)
The place was full of pricks
Magnetic Man were hugely disappointing (their set wasn't a patch on what they played at Parklife last summer)
If I'd known that the most enjoyable parts of the night would be the tail end of Kode9's set and DMZ (once all the moshing dickheads had, predictably, left) then I would have been less happy to part with so much money for a ticket.

troll?
but yeh, same old story with the warehouse every year. system is shite. stick 3000 people underground for a rave and theres gona be some unhappy people. a lot of those unhappy people will post on the internet about it. boom.
they should make a law, if you go to warehouse you have to sign a waiver that you go in the fully expecting all of them bad things people have been saying. they're making too much money to bother fixing it so dont go if you're expecting something mind blowing.
ffs people were moshing at MF Doom. sound was shit. but i saw doom and im happy about that.

Can't see any moshing going on here, though shit sound seems to be a recurring theme, and not one that should occur when a ticket is £17.50 at best.

Re: Kode 9's set at WHP and the general vibe of the night.
DJ's have a certain responsibility to get the crowd going at a club like WHP. Its massive. If you want to hear sets more representative of a producers output or a DJ's normal set don't go to a huge club in one of the biggest student city's in the UK. Common sense really.
