Slowed down drum and bass
Slowed down drum and bass
Is there a specific name for a subgenre like this? So basically semi-dubstep with drum and bass breaks in it, like Perfect Stranger by Magnetic Man.
And could anyone recommend me some more tunes like it?

Re: Slowed down drum and bass
it's just dubstep
dubstep can have any type of beat pattern
other dubstep songs that use amen breaks/jungle style percusion would include, but are not limited to:
there's more, i'm just too tired to think of em right now
it's also worth checking out the autonomic rinsefm show and podcast, not exactly the same thing but i think you might find it interesting

It's just dubstep but a few years back they used to call it Breakstep fwiw.
Re: Slowed down drum and bass
When I think of breakstep I think more along the lines of Oris Jay (drq1), toasty, threnody and early vex'd...

Re: Slowed down drum and bass
Fractal i would agree for me breakstep was DQ1, Zinc's breakbeat garage, definitely Toasty, Elemental, my stuff as well etc... This sound has really morphed in the same way the 'harder' stuff morphed into what is comically called brostep etc. These days there are quite a lot of producers working with the breaks and along the breakstep sort of line.... More of an evolution of the Toasty's breakstep than the Oris Jay or Zinc breakstep.
The dubs n breaks blog is a great starting point to discover more artists working on these territories (http://www.dubsnbreaks.com/). For me this sound is round about where dubstep was in late 2005. A handful of artists producing great tracks along similar lines but from very different angles. Lots of sharing dubs and a few labels supporting the sounds. The sounds are definitly there and there is a bit of media support (like Knowledge mag & Big Up mag) and a couple of raves but as of yet no real identity for the sound other than it being 'leftfield, abstract, breakdriven dubstep'. It is always a great time for a sound before it is named and starts to fall into the trappings of genre.
I think Magnetic Man (and well before that Dj Deekline) show how the breakier side of things has a commercial side but down in the underground where this scene is developing the sounds are quite raw and anti-commercial....
Good article from a couple of years ago here http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicbl ... cene-heard and it is out of this that the new scene has been emerging.
Artists to watch:-
Full Spektrum
Noiz
Threnody
Molez
Stormfield (& Combat A.V crew)
Blackmass Plastics
Elemental
ScanOne
Wagawaga
Coleco
Matt-U
Hurtdeer
Succulent-C
Paradigm X
Dekode

Emalkay - Crusader is another.
There's a The Others tune that N-Type was rinsing a month back that's a bit of a Junglist Dubstep tune...Can't remember the name though .

can i just say also that if youre going to use amen, at least try and edit it up a bit, and keep that amen "edits" tradition going.
