Why dont you start an old skool dubstep scene
R8004 - RSD - On Deck / Accepted - Out Now
R8005- Rogue State & Twisted - Logical Regression / Infect - Out Soon

It's not just old skool though is it? Got to agree that a mix of all paces and riddims is generally best and pretty much unheard of in most other genres
Hmm....

When it's done right, no.

The key is having rhythmic diversity in sets, not many DJs can play an interesting half-step only set. That's what DNB has lost (along with other things), I think- jungle was a bit rhythmically spread out.

yawn. halfstep still has a lot to give imo, who's heard Jakes - Titan? fuck me that's tune and a half! it's all about what you do with the space of a halfstep beat innit.

Bring some 03/04 grime in there...

Some of the sickest basslines.

Plus the breaky garage of Bingo et al.

That should spice up the rhythm smorgasboard somewhat.

too drunk to read through all this....

i agree completely...i cant really skank to most half step the way i want to.. it has to be full of other things & a lot of tunes built on that model are not.

but for real think about "find my way" most of that tune consists on 1 half step drum & it is fucking incredilbe!!!!!
kode9 is doing sets with just noise and space ape now! :o

it can go either way for me really, but forreal fuck that formula.

also on a very vaugely related note: who can get their bass to sound like sand?
i want to do that so badly.
