That is a sad tale Phigure man :(

Ann, a friend of the family has parkinsons and it's awful, she came to see us recently and for a good ten minutes or so she just sat on the sofa, eyes closed and shaking, not saying a word. After the pills had started working she became perfectly normal, the clever and aware woman i used to know as a child :(

Overall though my family has been lucky, my father is 50 and has not gone grey or lost a single hair, and he still bikes long distances every so often. I think this is due to him not having a job since he was my age (18)

I don't find age scary, though senility is.

Obviously not in all cases (feel for you phigure :( )but I think a lot of it has to do with lifestyle... it's amazing how many people who've lived in a certain way/have a certain mindset all their lives are still "young" at a time when others are in care.
I find becoming sedated societally, sitting at home all day watching x-factor (or equivalent) a much scarier prospect than growing "older".

Thank fuck I'm young.
Cant wait to be 150, in perfect health.

Funny story about old persons homes:

Was raising shenanigans with a friend of mine a few weeks ago.
We stumbled(literally) to this hole-in the wall retirement home, around the back, looking for some way to climb to the roof to light off fireworks.

Instead, we found that there were a couple of packages that were probably delivered earlier that evening.

We took them.

Our loot:

50 brand-new medical-scissors, this device used to call for nurses, and a bunch of those rubber things you fill with hot water.

A good haul if I do say so myself.

i'd like to go out like my old man. live life to the full for 50-60 years then just *bang* drop dead one day having a cigarette on the front steps of my house. none of that incontinence or losing my mental faculties. just out like a light. simple.

i wouldnt be proud of that. its not like those places are made of money. someone probably had to go without because they had to re-buy that stuff.

My dad died in his 30s. It was so quick and unexpected. The idea of your life suddenly cutting short like that before you're done with everything scares me. So I wanna carry on as long as possible and experience as much as i can. Unless when I get older I end up in pain, immobile or a burden on anyone then I'd want to go

I'm gonna do a Hunter S Thompson. As soon as my health starts fucking with my life i'm drawing for the 12 gauge. Fuck going out like my grandad, that man suffered for years (mainly due to refusing to see any Dr with skin darker than his)

I've always looked forward to being old.
even though my grandfolks suffered.

To little regrets resigned,
I'll rock my chair on the porch,
pat the dog until the sun sets
and wave to freight trains going by.

hell no.

old lady i know recently got put in a home because she couldn't walk outside her property without panicking and freezing. she made it a few hundred metres recently and just froze. had to wait for a stranger to help her home. shes moving into a home in three weeks and says she wants to die before she has to go there. how sad is that

grandparents are in and out of hospital and theres no way they want to move to a home.

i can see the 60's and 70's being good years, but much more than that there aint much to look forward to.

i wanna die in my sleep at 70

Do not go gentle into that good night

Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

if i had someone to love that loved me, then yes. thing is, i believe in euthanasia/suicide. so, at the moment i didn't want any more, i'd like to be able to die peacefully without waiting around.
