@ Phigure - Ha well I already commented on this but I gave it another listen anyway, Love those tribal drums! Upon further listening I think I would like to hear more kick in the lower frequencies. would really help to give it some more punch to that bassline that kind of fallows the kicks. Otherwise it is a pretty slick track maybe turn the sub down a tiny bit too. Also so down with that neuro reecy thing at the end pretty cool.

Here is a fixed version of my drop and reworked bassline, ignore the vocal sample at the end ha no idea if that's gonna stay but I kinda like it.

@phigure - Clean production. Great drum work. I agree on bringing the kick out a bit more. I like that nasty synth trying to sneak in at the end. :D:

@LordBird - I actually like the vocal sample at the end. You have a great start. I would be interested to hear what you come up with after that vocal. Maybe another hi-hat pattern to bring the drums out a bit more as well as switching up the wobbles is all I can think of at the moment.

Got a track I've been sitting on for a while. Think it's almost done (are they really ever?), so please critique esp on any mixing issues as my speakers are sh!t. Word.

@phigure - so crisp man, sounding amazing, id argee about there being too much sub tho, thought my ears were gonna pop listening on the headphones!! sick stuff mate!

@LordBid - sweet intro, love the sweep leading into the bass, arrangement felt abit "plodding" (sorry, cant think of a better way to describe it), maybe some more hats would sort it, but i guess if youve called it creepin maybe thats what you were goin for? the quality of all the sounds is top notch tho

@kingnoble - loving the vibe of this track but that 8bit lead has some nasty distortion in the top end, sounds abit wrong mate

O.K. now you can tear my beat to pieces, this is the first real attempt at dubstep ive ever got futher then 64 bars into, i wanted to know if the sub sat right in it??

@KingNoble - 1st song - I think your sub could be turned down a tiny bit. Otherwise I really like your idea of contrasting lo-fi dub stuff and then crazy crawly bass noises. Mind telling me about those hats a little bit anything special in the processing at 1:23 ive heard people use similar stuff before that I really liked. But yea I think if the sub was turned down a little would help this mix a lot. Drums could use a little more prominence too but that may be the sub being a little high. Cool song idea and tons of variation kept me interested so good job there.

2nd song - pretty much the same mix-down deal here I think your sub is a little overcompensated but not a whole lot. Li kin the vocals on this one for sure. Yea I do really like your hihat programming. I think the second drop could be a little smoother somehow but that's just a suggestion. Your mixes don't sound terrible at least!

@DJdopejack - dope drums the snare especially is phatasfuck. the sub needs more volume probly? you will probably need to hipass/eq that kick tho. This is pretty slick though. midranges can maybe even come up a little in volume as well. But yea man I would kill to get a snare that phat. Already has some great variation I want to hear it finished! Took your feedback into consideration and will possibly be adding more hats to keep it moving although the beat itself is a creeper and not really a skanker, well see how it all comes out in the end

Thanks for the feedback guys, that's exactly the type of thing i was looking for. after listening to something on repeat for so many times, you start to lose a sense of precision and get used to things that may be incorrect. Fixing that stuff right away. :Q:

@LordBid - I feel as though it gets a bit too quiet right before the drop. Add a little bit more reverb into the stuff right before that silence so that it rings into that quiet bit just the right amount so it doesn't sound like the tune drops out entirely. Sounding pretty good though, maybe layer a bit of a noisier snare on top of the existing one to give it a bit more punch.

@KingNoble - 1st track - Production is top notch. Really like the vibe of the tune; interesting contrast in styles. Progresses well and doesn't seem to lose steam. Sub is perhaps a tad too loud, and kick would benefit from being brought out a bit more. Very nice though.

@KingNoble - 2nd track - The first hat that comes in seems a bit too loud, maybe vary the velocity of some of the hits from time to time as they feel a bit too straight and robotic. The other hats are panned a bit too hard for my taste, and are also a bit too quiet. Track seems slightly muddy to when that big lead sound comes in. Sub is also slightly too loud in this one, and i feel the amplitude of the sub could use a little bit more changed up, so either change the envelope or make use of a light LFO modulation on the amplitude.

@djdopejack - IMO the whole monologue voice sample thing is rather overdone and cliche. I'm sure you can find a better way to keep a tune interesting than that. Sub needs some turning up. Midrange synth is also somewhat cliche, perhaps change it up a bit. It progresses pretty well though, and the production itself is pretty good

DJdopejack - The first thing that jumped out at me was how harsh that rimshot (or whatever you're using) is, it hits either side of the snare? Sounds like it could do with some reverb, or change the sample completely. Good work though!

Lordbid - Alright bid, long time no speak mate! You're coming along well. Intro is nice, i'd perhaps whack a bit more of a low cut on the bass flirting in and out though. Great drop, perhaps get the hi hats shuffling slightly more. For the brostep i usually get a nice ride and have that playing constantly throughout. You don't want it high enough in the mix so that you can really make out what it is, but i always find it helps my hi-hats move aswell as fill out the song. Doctor P does it a lot but pretty extremely.

Phigure - Literally wouldn't change a thing pal. Is it actually a drone underneath everything or is it just the reverb filling everything in?

KingNoble - Got the making of a top track. Just need to work on the mixdown, not a fan of the snare either. All the synthwork seems to be sitting alright, it's just the distorted wobbles that need some work. Would like this when it's finished!

Right got two tracks for you to critique, first is a remix of Vaski - Jelly. Only been on this for 2 hours or so but it's 2:30am at the moment so i'm going fucking mental trying to work on it. No intro, but this is what i've got so far. Think i'm going to hate the sub when i wake up. Really like the drum pattern though!

Soundcloud

Not actually a fan of the original but i think that helps sometimes;

This is a track i've been sitting on for a month or so, really want to get it finished.

Soundcloud

Really at loss for how to progress it past the offbeat guitar, and any kind of intro.

Haven't sat down and attempted any major mixing so far, but any help with that would be good. I know both are pretty quiet at the moment.

writing as ilisten ..

ironik - notquite diggin the vocal sample in the intro, bass sounds bit too muddy /noisy
the main parts had a nice feel/melody tho :)
1.10-2.05 just annoying :(

Marshy - listening to "slow slow down" nice vocals, drums sounding neat, good vibes!
definatly finish that!

LordBid - liking the drums very much but the tune sounds very empty too me

Phigure - listened to this on ur soundcloud already,, the drum needs to be louder and bongos/tablas bit queiter..otherwise i love the atmosphere. its a good tune :)
the shaker is really neat
i dig it!

Hey guys. Im new to the forum but I been lurking for a while. Using reason for about 4 months (on and off), starting to get the hang of things but i def need work. I hear the way to get help is to give it and post in WIP sooooo.

ogunslinger- really vibin to that, tho about half way through the vocals seem a little messy.

nacklewicket- feelin that beat but its a little ambient for me. Would sound sweet with some chill rap or raggae on top of it

Heres the track im working on. Collabing with my friend Prozack. Please, be brutal, I know it needs mad work. BTW im not in love with the sample at the second buildup i may pull it.

Just started this today. I'm going have someone record some palm muted guitar stuff for it tomorrow.

tripwire22- As I stared to listen to it I was really worried this would be one of those tracks that doesn't go anywhere or progress, so when the prec changed up at around 0:55 it was the perfect time for that. Maybe have some blippy arps come in later on?

Slinkee- I don't think I'm hearing a sine sub on this one, or at least not one that is loud enough. Reading some topics on sine subs really helps. I do like the wobbles and arps though. Something about the zippery high panning synth at :15 is annoying to me, maybe just turn it down a tad for the intro (ie turn down before :30, after that it sounds fine). That being said the panning on that synth and arps is a very good thing

ogunslinger- There are some really kick ass sounds in there. After 1:45 is the best part. I really hate your snare sound though, I just doesn't work, it's really off. The sample chops in the into sound kind of off, but that might just be me.

@kromakey - top notch bassline, awesome samples, but the high pitch thing after the bassline, what is that a sample or a synth? if a synth change it bro kinda annoying, but when the drop hits that is awesome, maybe add a buildup or something, maybe throw in some reggae stuff?

@tripwire22, kinda soothing, that bassline on par with the best, but on the pad it kinda high frequency, quite messy and distorted, should cut that out. overall very good man, digg that summer vibe? maybe add a female vocal? or search for some inspiration from summery tracks?

@slinkee, the bassline needs a bit of work kinda sounds out of place need to make it deeper and work on the placement, but i like the synths, maybe add some atmosphere or a pad? drums seem fine and like the build up, but basically the drop and bassline needs work

something i've been working on tonight, very short cloud, but hopefully you get my idea, looking for ideas where to lead this, and things to work on, kinda bare atm

@mindcontrol

how about leaving out the 1 after 4 bars of drums. drawing some attention to your twisted vocals. where to lead this? feels to me like you could navigate it a bit towards hiphop. i hear a very laid back beat with pumpin' kick. at least this was my association.
if you really want to go after this trace, i recommend to put the subbass below the kick and not under whatever wobble you had in mind. that way the swing of a shuffled beat becomes physically. hope it was helpful. AHOI
