need help making my bass have more movement (no wubs)
Hey guys.
Sorry if this is not in the spasific thread, but i really need help. I tried looking for the "how to make this sound" thread but couldent find it even after 10 mins of looking. i dunno.
Anyway, heres my problem... im trying to move away from wobbles in my dub and make a more "constant, moving, and high energy" bass. Im having trouble making my bass move in the same way as i have heard in chasing shadows - my eyes are red (link below).

I can make some dirty bass sounds using massive (using multiple osc's, detuning, filtering, envelopes, etc) and im happy with the overall sound, but i cant for the life of me work out how to make it move like in chasing shadows track. This is really the kind of dub i would like to make, but am well confused about how to do it.
If anyone could offer an explanation of how to make my bass have a similar movement to it it would help me out loads.
Cheers

in massive:
frequency shifter with both knobs at 12 o clock (exactly, or it will completely fuck up the sound)
you may have to eq afterwards

chasing shadows is the shit, and he is a resampling master. You sir need to work on automating things such as phasers and filters. I grantee he does not have stagnant effects racks, there is probly crazy automation on those tracks.
Re: need help making my bass have more movement (no wubs)
also u cant say no wubs and chasing shadows man!
Re: need help making my bass have more movement (no wubs)
Wouldn't detuning create some movement? Like if you had two sine waves (A sub) detuned at 5 cents each they would create some movement. To me it sounds like he is using the basic LFO -> to cutoff and just automating it starting at maybe 1/2 (t) and moving it up in speed. The bass itself is also a heavily re-sampled reese just a fyi.

Thanks for the tips.
Ill try the frequency shifter and let you know how i get on.
I have tried using phasers before, mainley reason 3's phaser and the ableton one, but had poor results when automateing it. Havent tried it in a while so ill give it another shot.

any ideas on how he would re sample his bass? It seems when i resample mine its all guess work, and most of the time sounds weak.

To be honest this seems abit like all the usual other make me this wob thread.. you do know you can get aaamazing results from automating the phaser..or basicly any effect? it all depends on what You want and what goes with the sound you've created, you need to find your own technique of making sounds and how to sample them, only then you can create your own unique sound.

No idea. You would have to ask the man himself. Most of these dudes spend months if not years perfecting their bass sound. It all comes with time and practice.Kilo beats wrote:Thanks for the tips.

If you're trying to move away from wobbles, well, isn't that track all about teh wobble?Kilo beats wrote:Hey guys.

Even automating an EQ can add movement, try creating a real tight peak that boosts (or cuts) about 3db and automate it to sweep up and down from 1k to 10k, at least work in those areas to see what it does, works best if you have alot of frequencies in those areas (distorted sounds). If you're using Ableton, a few effects like overdrive let you set a filter area, try automating that...
Try the autofilter, but set it on Notch and sweep it back and forth. You might get a familiar sound using it on some detuned saws.

sidechain compression? like so it's barely noticeable? um how about moving your lfo waveform's as well?
