I think you'll find it's a cigarette and it is a cigarette.

Smoking cigarettes in the US may get you sent to jail for a long time (unless you do it in conservative areas where you may be heralded as a hero). Over here it usually gets a look of disapproval and a grumpy cough (which I find quite offensive and an indication of the sadistic personalities of non-smokers)
