Thinking of picking up an axiom pro 49 ... advice?

Post by ogunslinger » Sat Nov 06, 2010 4:30 am

Hey, came across a pretty much brand new m-audio axiom pro 49 for like 350

you think it's worth it? was planning on buying a new midi keyboard/controller anyways
I've been just using basically keyboard and mouse cuz my keyboard is fuckin huge... it's a kurzweil 12i if you've seen one haha

but basically selling my aero stuff to buy komplete 7 and a midi controller!! haha

but yeah if you know of a better midi keyboard/controller for the price lemme know... and if you have an axiom pro 49, is it sick or what?

I had a regular one, but I found it somewhat superfluous for my needs. I had been using just some POS yamaha MIDI keyboard and an MPD 24 before that, and it fit my needs perfectly. Returned the axiom a week or so after I bought it

It's not too bad of a device though

I'm somewhat partial to the MPK 49, also.

I've got the Axiom 49 and love it. Use the pads for laying down percussion and hats, and seeing that i've never used a proper MPC the pads feel fine for me. Keys are nice, can't see why you'd need any more sliders or rotarys for bedroom production.

Yeah they go for around 250. Don't pay more than that. I think it's a good controller. I don't use mine as much as I though I would but no complaints.

I think you guys are talking about the regular axiom 49, he's talking about the pro which would definitely be more than $250 new.

I thought the pro was just a new paint job :6: Looks like they upgraded the lcd screen. Other than that it's still does the same shit.

not sure about the pro edition but the standard axiom's knobs/encoders click, so no smooth automation for you

Yeah,It's a good piece of equipment but for the price I rarely use much of the features..only play notes and fuck with the pads..I think if you go with a cheaper one and save the money you won't regret it

Same thing as others have said, rarely use the faders and knobs but the pads come in handy. Would probably get something that's less bulky if given the choice again.

Get a Korg Kontrol 49, or a Akai MPK 49. both are much better then the Axiom pro 49 imo.

DONT get the axiom.

Either Phigure's advice, $100 49 midi controller + Pad Kontrol (or mpd if you must) = $225

or MPK 49 (WORSHIP THE BEAST 666)

I had the padkontrol once, and all i can say... disappointment

Planning on using all the faders/knobs and so far all the reviews say it works great... so probably gona pick up on it sometime this week.

they use just the axiom 49 at my school and it works great, and the features for the pro seem like it's worth it so thats probably what im gona go with, sorry guys! I'll let you know forsure if it sucks or not.. haha

Sounds like you have your mind made up already.

In direct response to your question, a better midi controller for the price, the answer is resoundingly mpk49.

The mpk49 was my second choice, however I was unsure if I would be able to save all the midi mapping, as the axiom pro 49 saves everything and seems much more hands on.

:D just figured spending an extra $50 for smooth automation and the ability to save all the midi mapping easily to the keyboard would be worth it!

the mpk49... most def would be my second choice though!
