Re: Exact plugins/outboard effects that Datsik and Excision use?
imho, all the time people spend theorizing the how-tos of excision, datsik, and other skilled artists could be better spent on your own tunes. finding your Own style of sound, your own way of processing, etc etc
if you try to be like someone, youll always be one step behind. theyll be pioneering new stuff while you are trying to learn old news.
just because you find out what distortion plug tehy use or what synth doesnt mean you can install it and pump out bangers in ten minutes.
did you ever see excision and datsik posting on dsf omg how do you make ______'s basses!? what plugins do they use!?
no, they put the time in and taught themselves! hit up the grid on DOA, some sick tutorials and shit on there, pick one and try it out
open your DAW and get to work instad of trollin dsf
just my two bits

I have much more respect for people who try NOT to sound like Datsik or Excision...
But at least he isn't trying to sound like them, he just wants to know what are the great plugins/vsts that they use to obtain his own unique sounds

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Ill make things simpler for you man. all this linking to various info is rubbish. Ive made a NI Massive patch that will help you get that "YA YA YA" style filthy bass, I even added a Mod wheel parameter for an extra effect. heres the link.

And heres what is sounds like in production. the song was just for an example. Nothing serious.

FOR THE LAST TIME! I WAS NOT TROLLING! What about that don't you understand? I mean, it's THIS exact reason why I haven't been here in at least 3 weeks. I ask one question not knowing about the history of what was going on in this forum only to have a damn lynch mob come after me! To hell with learning dubstep! I'm tired of trying to learn it when most of the people here are the most unsupportive ruthless mob I've ever seen! The rest of the post was fine, but god! What do I have to do to prove I'm not a troll?
Re: Exact plugins/outboard effects that Datsik and Excision use?
You need to chill out. That dood djchaosshpere or whatever his name is was like the only person to call you a troll once it was sorted that you weren't trollin. Just calm down.
If that one person's comments are going to prevent you from making dubstep, then you shouldn't be making dubstep.
Anyway bro, chill out, lest you do end up with a permanent reputation.

Seems like a pretty valid point... but maybe they did post asking for advice on how to make sounds. I'm sure they were inspired by something that lead them to want to make the kind of music they make.djchaosphere wrote:did you ever see excision and datsik posting on dsf omg how do you make ______'s basses!? what plugins do they use!? no, they put the time in and taught themselves!

I can't stand wasp and that stupid ts404 bass-shit plugin. Would rather use Tal-Elecktro / bassline with Bitcrusher/CamelPhat/Classic Series effects vst.
and its just a heavily re-sampled and processed reese. Good Grief..even datsik said in a youtube interview that he was getting tired of the boring robo-noises and was moving on to drumstep & hiphop/dubstep.

Re: Exact plugins/outboard effects that Datsik and Excision
well from what i know and from what iv recreated off datsik's and excisions basslines..... they tend to use massive built in effects. im not sure of what outer effect they use, but there is phasing going on. datsik and excision i beleive "recycle" basslines. which one method is record your bass pattern in to audio, and then use effects like bitcrusher, or tape slow down fx, and retriggers and modulation effects. hope that answered your question

Re: Exact plugins/outboard effects that Datsik and Excision
what type of synthesis method do you use, grain table, or wave table would be a good place to start, FM perhaps

?? What ?? It's not June! It's April! June happens in 2 months, not now! It's April, not June.
Re: Exact plugins/outboard effects that Datsik and Excision
Datsik and Excision use whatever they feel like using at the moment, then add some fx, resample, add more fx, resample and basically edit the sound till its not even the same sound. Only the original artist really knows what the initial sound was like and how to transform that into the final sound...I know you may not want to hear it, but it is much more rewarding to make your own sounds, rather than imitate other artists. I know its tempting to try and be excision (lol i was on the same boat just about 3 weeks ago) but its really not a good idea and you'll wind up just wasting time.JWMMakerofMusic wrote:Hello all. I just started getting into listening to Dubstep when I first heard Excision and Datsik's brilliant track "Swagga" a few months back. One can't say Dubstep without thinking about all the thought and editing and feeling that went into that masterpiece! Since then I've pooled through the Dubstep Production Bible and played around with FL Studio (well, I've been using FL Studio for years, but I've produced mostly trance). I love the experimental sounds in the many various tracks of Dubstep.
Now, this isn't really a "what plugins should I use" type thread as I found plenty of links to great free distortion units (and plenty of threads saying "you should buy Ohmicide" or "Izotope Trash" or "Massive Synth", etc). I still haven't experimented enough yet, but I'm starting to get the hang of producing Dubstep.
No, rather, this is a thread with one simple question, "What manner of plugins/outboard effects do Datsik and Excision use?" When I play with my sounds, I never can quite get the same types of sounds they use.I don't wish to copy their style for my own future productions. I'm just super curious. Any clues?
Cheers.
PS For future reference, you shouldnt make threads about "How can I make datsik/excision sounds?" because people post things like that all the time and the guys here on DSF get cranky about them. I personally don't mind.
