What's wrong with my monitors?

Post by grandmabastard » Mon Nov 01, 2010 4:11 pm

So I decided to take producing a little more seriously, and bought myself some decent monitors, I got a pair of KRK 5's.

The problem is that when they are on there is a ridiculous amount of bleeping and general unwanted sounds. I don't really know what the deal is, I know fuck all about this kind of thing. Anyone know what it is? I'm pretty sure it won't be the monitors themselves, it must be some kind of feedback from other shit in my computer, or maybe the soundcard is bad, either way.. anyone know a solution?

Cheers

Are you producing on a laptop?

if you are using your built in soundcard on either a desktop or laptop you are going to be getting a lot of internal noise coming through.

if you are trying to take things seriously invest in a proper soundcard. :D:

I ask about a laptop because i use an external sound card for my DVS and when im using my laptops original power supply i get a terrible ground loop caused by the grounding of the plug to the mains socket. When i unplug the power supply i get not feedback, and when i use a universal power supply i get very very minimal amounts of feedback.

Universal power supply if your original one starts doing that and check your mixer / unwanted soundcard recording levels are muted.

Yeah, what everyone else has said is pretty much it, you'll have to invest in an external soundcard to eliminate the unwanted noises coming out of your monitors.
