LordBid wrote: K so here is another WIP I started for the Vaski - Jelly remix competition gonna try to get it in on time by monday so im trying to hammer it out. The original song is quite simple so I am trying to make it mroe or less as strait forward but more dancy and dark. Levels are not 100% yet but I think its sounding pretty poppin! Oh and sorry its so quite I forgot to boos the mix for a preview.

Also all feedback returned!

The vocal samples are pure genius man. Lovin it haha! I feel like it's lacking in punch. The synth don't give that boom effect they need and the drums never really bang either. You create such a big build with the vocal and then extended build with a drop not so big. It doesn't feel right.
samkablaam wrote: heres mine, dont watch the mix, i just dunno wat to do arrangement wise anymore.

That intro definitely caught my attention with its experimental-ness. The vocoded voice is a feel good tone and hooked me in but it ended up feeling awkward. I never really knew when it dropped or when the verses were starting or ending. Your synthesis appears to be pretty good but the musical aspects are confusing and it felt more like sound than it was music. The drums also were odd to me.

Wow when the song fades in I instantly knew it was quality. The production quality is all there but I honestly like the intro before the drop more than anything else. The stair effect on the breakdown didn't really do it for me but everything else melody wise was great. Try to get the basses a bit sharper and exciting.

Here's a new one I started working on today. It's pretty derogatory club music meant to echo off walls. Hopefully it'll get you dancing. I just bought a maschine so while still learning how to use it I tried to incorporate it some. Let me know what you think.

IanMassoth: The percussion in this is really really good. It's so restrained (in a good way). That synth is good too, maybe needs to be blended in a bit better, but i like it. I think the sub could have more presence too. Overall I love how stripped back this track is though. Just needs some more production work really.

I went a bit crazy this morning and did this. And YES, that is Ricky Gervais in there as a sample. Enjoy.

@Lordbid: Not really feeling that synth loop in the intro to be honest, bass sound is pretty cheesy. The drums are pretty groovy with that shuffle which moves it along nicely, Liked the vox though and like you said the levels need changing

@Samkablaam: The intro was a bit too long in my opinion, loving the drums and the chilled synth though, really my cup of tea. Would love to hear it more developed with maybe some percussion hits

@Remokari: Liking this a lot! Really feeling the intro melody and great production on the bass sound, Nice arrangement too but the only thing i would say is to make the drop a bit clearer

@IanMassoth: The intro was also a bit too long, There isn't really a clear structure to this song either. Once it gets into it you have some really nice things going on, just now the case of re-arranging them to perfection!

EDIT::

FUCK SAKE! Totally didn't accidentally post in the WIP thread instead of finished tracks

Haha lol thanks for the comments peeps! And in resposne to ppl not liking the synth melody I beg you to go listen to the original song its about as cheesy as it gets so I was trying to retain some of that in my remix!

Anyway here is a revised version with some more slammin drums and other additions to fill out the mix, tell me what you think on this one please! I lvoe the advice that some people give on here helps so much!
Soundcloud

@Impy - Ohhhhh yea like the melody for sure. Your tracks have some great atmosphere and although Im not a huge fan of dub-step's chill-out side this is pretty slick. I think the kick could maybe hit a little lower in the frequencies but its not a huge deal ppl always give me shit about that too and I think its cus they don't have a sub.... I think the sub may be a little loud in the mix right now but not by a whole lot and that could be my poor judgment heh but look into and see if it makes a difference. Its a nice track not really dancy or anything but good easy listening.

@IanMassoth - I think your intro goes on way too long and does not build enough excitement. Elements of it are great especially the sidechained effects. Ok now the drop.... That screeching thing was making my ears bleed!!!!!!!!!!! tone it down please. This song needs some sub or something to fill in the space and if you are trying to make a dance tune I think more kick hits are needed to keep it boppin cus you have way too much empty space. But yea I am not getting much sub on my end so keep these things in mind. Maybe shorter intro with your best ideas involved. some switches in the drums would be great

@samkablaam - well the intro was way too long and failed to keep my attention, needs more overall movement and either to get to the point faster or for the various parts to jell better somehow and not play out like separate loops. My roommate who knows a lot more than I do about music said that your melody and the vocals are off I guess one is playing 4th notes and the other is in 3rds so it clashes a little bit in the beginning there. I personally didn't notice a whole lot but that is what he said. Love the drums on the drop but I feel like more or more present hi-hats could be playing to help hold the groove. overall mix sounds pretty nice though def a good start although I am not a fan of those vocals at all seems kinda trashy I guess.

Great! Very nice funky feel to it. I'd maybe turn down that high pitch riff a tiny bit. And there seems to be 2 parts to the main rif, like a A,B. I like the A part better than the B part. doo I mayke enny censse??

Interesting experimental. Others have probably mentioned this, but that bubbly, wattery noise is way too hot. Turn down the mids on the whole tun too and up with the bass. You may be mixing with bass-heavy monitors.

Nice vibe man. The snares seem like they need more reverb. Especially for the raggae dub vibe you have going. Also they are a bit too hot. Mainly lower the second snare in your doubles so it seems more like an echo of the 1st than 2 snares simply being hit. Are the double snares dead-on 16ths? They seemed a bit off a few times there. And perhaps a new melody on top during some part of the song might change things up a bit. <-- it seems like it's missing a main riff.

BUT WHAT THE HELL DO I KNOW??

Ok, I've given my heart-felt feedback based on my 30 years of listening to funky music. I was also a break dancer and a scratching, hip hop dj, so there!

Here's my wip. Just re-worked last night. lol that first sub hit when the kick and piano riff start sounds completely silly to me. I will definitely fix that or remove it!

Remokari: nice! maybe throw a little drop in there but sick start man

IanMassoth: haha love the clock sample, sounds like my foods done haha.... sounds pretty good to me! good job

LordBid: dude I think your tune needs snare.... like way more snare! basically this... but with snare Image <----- Ok well maybe not that much snare!

Debaser1: vocal sample is sick! also maybe add some variation but other than that around 1:30 i think the synth that kicks in is maybe a tad bit too loud?

beatbum: pretty sick when it gets too around a minute! kinda curious on how it would sound if you maybe bumped the piano bits down an octave :e:

heres my work in progress kinda getting closer to finishing it!

and that's what I got:
hope you enjoy...

anyways, its not mastered (my downside) and not finished legth-wise.

Remokari, Great production! bass has a nice full tone. drums are laid out perfectly and seem to fit the track well :) would love to hear it finished

IanMassoth, love the intro synth and the little bell thing. i feel the part before the main beat comes in is a little stretched out. maybe you could add some background effects and sweeps or something. and where in cali are you?

Lordbid, diggin this remix! the drop is killer! im not feelin too much sub in the track though? other than that i think its sick!

Kidstrange, loving the chill vibes of this track! something seems to be off in the sub though. maybe change the reverb on the kick so it only reverbs the highs? idk really. great tune though :)

Beatbum, the piano riff reminds me of phone home by lil wayne :P great track anyway :) love the snare

ogunslinger, not really my cup 'o tea. good mix though.

Ok, started a new one tonight. give me some advice ;)

@ogunslinger - Dope samples man this is siiick. Your mid-range bass needs some more presence I think Like make it fatter larger and this is gonna be a sick track, wouldn't mind a 320 when it gets finished! FATASFUCK! I re-listened to my track after giving my ears a break during work and yes the snare sucks right now your totally right!

@Weedcali - There are some great ideas in the intro and its pretty well mixed. however I think the intro is way too long for what it is and kind of lacks direction it seems and just meanders around in melody world for too long. Your kick gets lost in the drop and I can barely hear/feel it. Sounds like the levels need some adjusting to help sort all of that out. Otherwise I like that melody its got a great mysterious feel to it. But yea work on that kick and the bass levels and it should sound pretty good!
