Push and pull arpeggio effect (NumberNin6 style)

Post by radar2102 » Wed Nov 10, 2010 8:44 pm

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anybody could tell me how numbernin6 achieves this chainsaw effect around 1.22. I've tried arpeggiating, gating to a kick drum, drawing 16th notes in the sequencer and LFO's routed to filters and amps but it sounds to much like a machine gun. His breathes so well and gives a push and pull feel whereas mine is rather static and boring. Any constructive info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :u:

Just a guess but it sounds to me like the main synth sound is routed to an LFO with a ramp, and speed set pretty high

Thanks for input. I've tried ramp and every other waveform synced to 1/16 routed to amp and filters. It almost sounds ok at 1/8 but the faster it gets, the more dead and boring it sounds. But it doesn't hurt to try again.

Are you referring to that 'sound' before the drop?

Thanks, but I mean the heavy arpeggiated pattern during the drop.

Sorry for not being more clear. Yes, the baseline.

Well there is actually an arpeggio before the drop so yeah you weren't really being clear :P

It sounds like what the other people have said tbh but maybe try distorting after the LFO (with an external plugin) or moving the filter dial up a little because I know in Massive you can lose some of the character of the sound you are automating when you move the LFO sync rate above 1/8th...

Try triplets and dotted notes on the arp

Like others have said, i think its a ramp synced to LFO with an external filter giving it that dirty/distorted sound, so maybe if it sounds too empty throw in a filter to add some beef.
