Whys everything on here so technical

Post by legend4ry » Fri Nov 12, 2010 2:17 am

Can't we get some threads here on people being arty farty and expression their creative mind instead of talking about effects and techniques? Its a boring read.

K, Thx!

So, the aim of this thread.

Post something in it whats inspired you lately - be it a song, a film/video, piece of art, an experience. And how you took that inspiration and put it into music.. Feel free to post up the track, i'll allow it in this thread!

Just show artistic development from initial idea to finished product or have your post edited with alpaca pictures!

I don't think everything is technical in here. Actually I think there could be more of it but whatever people want to talk about...

I'll tell you I get inspired by different things but I can't pinpoint usually where that inspiration ends up specifcally. Lately the inspiration has been working against me. Like for instance I have been jamming Alan Parsons Project over and over again and it almost makes me not even want to write because I know I could never do something like that.

Awesome idea !

Lately i've moved away from synth heavy music, and have been producing lots of jazzy/blues sorts of ideas, lots of pianos, upright basses and brass and strings. So much more fun than just programming a cool sounding synth and making a track around that synth or a cool drum loops you've found/made.

Just been sitting around improvising on piano over drum beats or improvising to songs that i listen to while chilling. that or just pick up a guitar and try and add new parts to some of my favourite songs just for fun.

Trying to emulate and get a feel for some great chord progressions especially when they come from songs you love, gives you such a good appreciation for making your own expressive and interesting progressions, my music writing has moved on loads in the last few weeks just listening to so much more new music and trying to emulate and improve over the songs as i listen.

I might post up some of my weird jazzy stuff later, but yh, serious fun to be had in actual instrumention and improv, and trying to experience as much music as possible. just my 2 pence !

My GF (who doesn't listen to Dubstep, but works in computer science) & I were listening to a Get Darker podcast today, when some random tune came on making all kinds of noises that even irritated ME and I noticed she had spaced out... I asked her what was wrong... she said she was thinking about Foley Artists, people who do sound design for movies. She said it sounded like "not music, but an angry robot duck" LOL I wasn't surprised by this comment because she's intelligent, but it brought home the fact this genre has gone from music oriented to ENGINEERING oriented. LOL

Because of all these brosteppers adding a zillion different "resampled" basslines and I can't forget to mention the brits(no offense) and how picky they are.

I saw this dude Human? drop some juke in the club a few weeks ago and it sounded awesome because its so sparse and the sub is so big. so i was intrigued and also had the idea of making it a bit more jungle like and use a break instead of just 808 sounds for the drums. im not 100% happy with it but the sub is pretty large. thoughts?

That's great, reminds me a little of early Mogwai. Where's the wobble bass and random FX though?
