Why would they?

If you have a habit of chewing on random pens lying about that have been accumulating germs from the surroundings or even other peoples mouths, then surely the extra intake of germs can only help boost the immune system to some extent?

Just a thought, as I sit here chewing on a pen of unknown origin

I mean with vaccines do they not put a little bit of the disease into you so your immune systems learns how to fight it, thus building up an immunity? And if so, would the same not apply to ingesting germs and harmful bacteria of the pens that you chew?

They put disactivated pathogens in vaccins. So dead bacteria or the "shells" of a virus. They wont harm you, but your immune system will recognize them and be able to build up antibodies against them.
Thing is, in a vaccin, there are quite a lot of pathogens, that's why some people actually get sick a bit after a vaccination. Which is actually quite a good sign because it tells you your immune system is working.

But on a simple pen there aren't that much germs. And normally, a pen doesn't get in contact with a lot of bad germs.
I think most germs on a pen are germs you would get in contact with anyways.

If a sick person would've chewed on it it would be different I guess. But you got to remember that there are like, thousands of bacteria in our mouth already.
