no it isn't. it's just pointing out how something may sound online isn't necessarily the way it is.
fretn wrote:symmetricalsounds wrote:fretn wrote: As of the clothing, how do you want to make social promotion if you wear these gowns, I mean you wouldn't come and apply for a job in these clothes or trainers, right?
well only because people like you consider those clothes not-smart. i can't see the issue at all, in certain jobs they wouldn't be practical but still no need to look down on people simply because they are comfortable in different clothes.
God, stop protecting them like they are small children... they have the possibilities in our society to promote on the social ladder a lot more easier than in their country of heritage but it requires some form of adaptation, if they want to stay poor & live in shitty housing, they can be my guest.
i'm not protecting them per se, i'm saying what the fuck is up with you if you think the clothes someone wears is such a big deal?
also if they did start taking all the higher paid jobs and moving into more wealthy areas you would probably then complain about how your area is now overrun and that they took your job.

I do not judge their clothing, I am just saying that without those life would be a lot more easier for them (because a gown is not warm enough when it freezes)

how do you know?
i'm guessing you're talking about shalwaar-kameez?
depending on what material they are made from they can be REALLY warm. also it's getting a bit wrong that you just keep referring to a particular ethnic minority as "they". are you pissed off about muslim people? people from pakistan? or just everyone that isn't native or everyone that doesn't wear suits to work?

No, why should I! I just came back from India, and I love the Arab world as a place to go to on holidays. We do not have a lot of Pakistanis in Belgium so that's not it either.
It's just a matter of adapting,
I don't care what you do in your house but behave like the rest of society when you are doing your job (the same can be said about the Burka, I have nothing against a head scarf as long as the face is shown).

Yeah, but in a sane world it would seem more reasonable to expect some level of intelligence and moderation from one of the UK's biggest selling daily newspapers than from a small number of random nutters.
To look at it another way, if a black person does something stupid then they've done something stupid, fine. That doesn't make it okay to use BLACK PEOPLE ARE STUPID as a headline for the story.

There's a guy at my work who wears really bad waistcoats, can we ban them as well?

Heard that/similar before....
Why can't you accept muslim/asian cultures though? Are they REALLY doing anything wrong? Apart from wearing clothes that you dont want them too.

Look up my part I wrote some posts back about India & the Arab world, but there is one thing. It's not compatible with our society, some gaps are just too big. The way they see a society is just a lot different then ours.

so what you dont like is the fact that they are deliberatly inciting controversy?
i think someone else a few pages back said it best.
christians vs muslims with jewish hosts....
it does make me wonder why the media seems intent on getting our indigenious public to hate on 'muslims'.

I agree with Fretn (and I'm brown.)
If you're in a country, you should adopt the traditions and cultures of the country. They should over-ride your own.
You can still adhere to the tenents of your faith, But there should be more incentive for integration.
Else, there's no real point being here - certainly these days - the financial benefit (which is the biggest reason for staying)
isn't even here anymore. If anything, now's the time to leave the UK as it's a sinking ship.
If you're here because you believe in the country, are willing to be part of the working world and beneficial
to the culture then you should be welcomed with open arms.
If you're not here to do those things, then you should move somewhere else where people share your views
and you can thrive in THAT community.

Oh, and in regard to the whole poppy burning thing:
Extremists are just that - they're not the majority. Ignore them like the drunk uncle at family weddings.
And daily mail readers are wankers.

I agree you should adopt some of the culture of where you now live and integrate yourself into the society. But if you were suddenly came over from Pakistan and lived in a community with lots of other Pakistani families, shops, traditions ect. would you try and back yourself more "British" or would you just stay with what you know??

my parents have a place in spain, and they try their hardest to be like the locals as a mark of respect for the local/spanish culture.
this should be what it is, a mark of respect.
imagine if someone comes into your house and sparks up a cigarette (if its a non smoking house obviously)
youd be vexed would you not? its not fair just becuase you do it at home, to bring it to someone elses place.
does that make sense?
