my first dubstep track... please critique the hell out of me
hey guys,
nice to meet everyone!
my name's bridsmath
i'm a former house producer, but reading this forum for the past year or so has angled me off in the direction of dubstep. i don't know like a single person who listens to this genre so i have no one to ask or discuss things with.
thanks a bunch and i look forward to meeting people!

This is just personal preference, but I think the wobble should have a beefed-up low end--right now there are a lot of mids. The production is very clean and the bitcrusher "yah-yah-yahs" are a nice touch.

I know very well what its like to cross over into a new genre, and to be honest, if that's really your first Dubstep tune, then you did a fantastic job. Keep at it. You've already got everything you need, just need to keep going and get better by practice...

Thanks a lot for the comments, guys. I really appreciate it. I agree that the bass could use a bit more low end. I've been trying to fine tune it to provide this for a while now. My approach at the bass is 4 oscillators running in an L with the first being pure sub all the way to third and fourth which are the sharp mids... And then of course a massive chain of effects following the soft synth.null wrote:This is just personal preference, but I think the wobble should have a beefed-up low end--right now there are a lot of mids. Would it be safe to layer this entire instrument with a sub bass to provide more low end? I mean I guess I could go the trial-and-error route with it and see what happens but I'm thinking it might be too much.
Any thoughts or tips on the subject would be wicked!
Thanks again,

Ah, I beefed this bass up big time by eqing the wobbling oscillators - pretty fat!

Any other feedback?

Thanks man. Just gave your track "koto" a listen. Love the ambient keys that come in about half way through. Sweet tune.
Also wanted to mention that I've started on another track and have been experimenting with the Corpus audio effect in Ableton. I've managed to layer my bass sound with a pretty dirty sub bass using this in a send track. If anybody would like to know how or just discuss bass in general I'd love to share insights. PM me here or I'm on facebook as well at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bridsmath/173551966005205
Thanks again for listening

The track is cool dude, but i think it needs perhaps more variations, other sounds.
