Buying my first set of decks and I have about 400 quid to spend. Decided not to go down the vinyl route because of the cost of buying the actual vinyl whilst I already have some good quality MP3's. Anyhoo been having a look on ebay and have seen that the pioneers 200's and 800MK2's generally fall close to my price range(I have not bothered looking at other brands as I have heard/read that you just end up getting annoyed at them). Assume the 800's are the newer model but I am worried by the fact they are cheaper than the 400's. Was there some sort of fault with them which is why they are cheaper?
Anyway advice please on what I should get/ think about.
Get the 800MK2's, most clubs have the 1000's these days and the 800's are layed out pretty much the same...don't really know the difference between the 400's and 800's, think the 400's have more effects and are compatible to more music formats etc..never seen/used them in a club though.
I have 400's and a friend of mine has 800's. The biggest problem I find with the 400's is the jog wheel which is a bit flimsy. Also spinbacks on the 400's are shit. However, the 400's really suit my purpose, because they have USB inputs, which allows me to play mp3's with a USB stick.
The 800's do not have a USB connection, but the MK2's will be able to play mp3 cd's. The reason why they are less expensive is because the model is about 6-8 years old now, whereas the 400's are only maybe 2 years old.
Jonathan compares them well.
You might want to look into getting the 350's which are actually more advanced than the 400's but cost less I believe. They might be less than the 800's too.

Bit weird how they have done the numbers I think.
Not heard of the denon's before, will have to look into them too. Could there be the argument that pioneer get to give less for more due to their reputation? Or I guess it could be vica versa lol.

those cost atleast 800 a piece.
if you have 400 per CDJ id say get Stanton c.324s . there amazing, very strong and duriable, and have TONS of features that even pioneers dont have.
For £400 I reckon the Pioneer CDJ100's will do IF you can't find any 800's (My mate was lucky enough to get x2 cdj800's for £450!) I've had the CDJ100's for a while.. Only problem is you can't do that much with them though, So if you're into FX you'll need an FX unit or something.. It's a shame CDJ1000's are so expensive, wouldn't mind a set of them! =D

The 800's are going pretty cheap on ebay. Cheers for the tip on the stantons will definitely have a look into them.

I don't think the 100's can play mp3 cds which I really would like to be posssible. correct me if I'm wrong though.
the reality is, you can buy the stantons now, and in 7 months time you'll be taking them back to get repaired, and then 3 months after that you'll be buying a new pair of decks because your stantons have died.
so if you dont mind buying new decks every 12 months or so, go hard with the stantons, but if you want a pair that are gonna last time, then dont cop out on the money straight up...

To be honest I can't say that I have ever tried.. I only ever burn 4 or 5 tracks onto a CD so I burn them as Audio CD's. Pretty crap if you can't though =\

ehh not true, my stantons have lasted about a year and a half, and my friend who was a pair has lasted nearly 2 years, they have a pretty good life for them id say.
Im with everyone who said to buy 800's. You say you won't be playing out anytime soon. but i guarantte after a year ull be well into it and getting a few gigs (albeit just parties etc) and ull kick yaself when u step up to some 800's and it wnt be like ya mixing at home. Sack off all the effects and shit you get wityh other CDJ's (effects don't make a good dj)

Agreed with you about it all but at the end of the day I got these pretty cheap and couldn't afford the 800's.
