i'm sure you've all seen how unreasonably upset and ungrateful people can be on this forum about the most minor of things. the amount of anger from some people just at creating this sub-forum was unreal so i think it would be sensible to make it clear to people that the award at least has a grounding in dubstep

i dunno, it's a tricky one but we're going to need to make a decision one way or the other
those people can go fuck themselves. straight up and down. this part of the forum is better than the rest of dsf anyways....what's the worst they can do? spam your inbox? maybe they'll pull a dj tarzan and get the fbi involved...

h&g is ill. call it that. fuck the whiners. room 2 is dope too but obviously that doesnt seem to be flying, so h&g all the way.

badger you should even tag " & garage" onto this forum name.

noooooo... if we call it house & garage then I still won't have a term to describe the type of music I like to people outside this forum. :( Keep trying guys

I think you should call it 'the wot you call it awards'
what is of value and wisdom for one man seems nonsense to another.

you could call it Johann Gambolputty-de-von-Ausfern-schplenden-schlitter-crass-cren-bon-fried-digger-dingle-dangle-dongle-dungle-burstein-von-knacker-thrasher-apple-banger-horowitz-ticolensic-grander-knotty-spelltinkle-grandlich-grumblemeyer-spelter-wasser-kurstlich-himble- eisenbahnwagen-guten-abend-bitte-ein-nürnburger-bratwürstel-gespurten-mitz-weimache-luber-hundsfut-gumeraber-schönendanker-kalbsfleisch-mittleraucher-von-Hautkopft of Ulm Awards...
...People would still bitch about it rather give it thought why it was called that way or just simply vote, especially now that the forum has like 500000 times more users than it used to last year. It's just the thing with mass (online) communities.
The problem with genre-describing terms nowdays is that half is journalistic platitude and the other half is not questioned by people, who are too lazy or too uncaring to actually know why it's called the way it is or where the sound actually came from...

the award might have it's grounding in dubstep (or more precise the dubstepforum) but still, a lot of dubstep came from garage & 2-step, not everything came from jungle. Most of the dj's nominated can be inserted under house & garage better than anything else, so do most producers, some labels even more, as they might even release house & garage and not some personal abstraction of it.Nonetheless the fact that no matter what it's still happening exclusively on dubstepforum, so there will always be grounding there.

One other solution which would be more work for you mods is: If people complain so much about this section of the forum, and many just purely hate without any grounding on their disliking, then why not have award exclusively for this section, those who want to vote , come in here and vote, just as you would when entering the general discussion part of the other forum. Personally i would vote on both award, as it would well be the case of many. But i don't see the reverse of this happening as much. Make 2 separate awards for people to vote. But i'm guessing this would even cause for further segregation amongst users...

Another point of interest is what would be done if people like shackleton or zomby who have such a personal identity in their tunes got nominated, their music is nothing but their own. In modern electronic dance music, most interesting producers don't fall under 1 specific lineage of music development or category (i don't mean to create more confusion, just trying to make a point, why to stick with the simpler, is this time around, the best option)

House Section or House & Garage Awards ftw!!

edit: i find room 2 disrespectful, i'm guessing it's some sort of fabric or multiple floor dance refrence,it's not only dated, since a lot of these dj's are already playing bigger stages and rooms, but just the principle of it is not very flatterring for those who are nominated to receive an Award for excellency...

that's too bad, as the term has been used to describe the evolution of the sound since the early FWD>> days

i like it, as it links all styles of our sound, both past, present and future. house & garage is super misleading

Yeah, it's ok, but most people outside the UK won't relate to it...you don't see it that much outside FWD>>

yeah sorry i wasn't at FWD in the early days but I was 17 years old and living in california. also it kind of makes me laugh that someone has been saying "wot u call it" to describe music with a sound thats been out for YEARS.

My vote goes to 'Bass Music' or 'UK Bass'. Granted, such a category would normally include (proper) dubstep producers, too, but I don't see that as much of a problem. Otherwise, one of the names that refers explicitly to this subforum is probably the way to go.
