You said it Vid Del (or what was it?) : based off of my interpretations. Unfortunately not everyone shares those views, in fact I guess I've become somewhat of a minority. It's this attitude of laissez-faire that's been about for the last two years that has allowed practices such as this in the first place. It shouldn't have been condoned from the start (altough people like blackdown, rob sparx or even scuba did make an effort).
Oh I would be so happy if forward thinking artists like Pearson Sound would stand out 'like a black man at a KKK meeting'. However much this is the case, they have little to show for it. The next Kanye West remix will however get 10K views on youtube. But of course this is more aimed at upcoming talent.

And yeah, it's been said and done a thousand times so I can understand Fractal's dismay when reading through the thread. But isn't it about time something changes?

My point for the moment though is : organising a dubstep (illegal) remix competition is gay, whenever, wherever and nothing good can possibly come from it. Look at the example in the OP. I'm having a hard time applauding people who support such activities. I've explained why.

One final note :

There's enough talent in the bay area : why not assemble that new talent, let them bring forward some tunes and organise an open content remix platform where everyone can step up and bring forward their interpretations of each others track, charge an entrance fee and make a cd compilation out of it?

That would have been an initiative worth applauding. And yes, I have been part of that before, only we did it for free (whether that was out of necessity or a deliberate 'ethical' choice, I'll leave in the middle  )

First of all, i too, agree that remixing is easier in the sense that when you do a remix, you're already starting with a pre-determined musical idea. On another note, if you're remixing a track you have no interest in remixing, then it can also be a limitation. It can be a real challenge to come up with someone that you like while you're working with something you hate. And as far as the ethics of remixing are concerned -> The tracks aren't being sold illegally. Why have a competition of remixes anyway? Lots of people like hearing remixes. It's that simple really.

It's music. You either like it or you dont. I'm not a fan of the track you have in your sig at all, but i'm sure you love it, and others love it; and that's all that matters. At the competition, the judges loved my stuff. One of them wants me to write some dubstep tunes of my own so he can release them on his label. Done.

PS: I'm fairly new to these forums, but i've made a thread or two in the past, and the general trend seems to be that lot of people here are really negative and like to shit on music that they dont deem to be "good". Come on dudes. chill the fuck out. Like i said; it's music. you either like it or you dont, and there's REALLY nothing more to it than that.

it's certainly what MY dubstep sounds like.

nuff said. don't let the negativity get you down. we might not share the same aesthetic tastes, but it's not my mission to make you like the same things i do... keep doing you man

:w:

swear down, next time someone wants to post something negative on someones thread, instead try to find a thread you do like and post on it... an interesting experiment on the morale of the board

you know its true...
-r-

but nah every impression i get on here is rarely a good one and its always the same "tearouty poorly produced dubstep remix of something" from America.

So someone prove me wrong.

Also to OP, i was a little hard on you, i guess you're just doing your thing and you don't know much in general which isn't your fault, you just need educating.. but i don't like the idea of a remix competition for "dubstep" when the judges ideas of "dubstep" are probably completely 100% false.. seems ridiculous.

ahahahaha seriously? too many people around here are quick to judge" whats wrong" when people mention funtcase or cookie monsta, yet you have respect for some guy who won a remix competition..

Literally can't be bothered with this lame shit

Dude.. widowmaker.. Just gave your your soundcloud a listen, and i'm not TRYING to hate, but i can't believe you talked down to my tunes with all that (what i consider) generic and plain sounding stuff on your page. you should really check yourself before you talk so much. that's just sillyness.

^ Indeed it is, but you're representing yourself to scene; well, at least I AM, and it's obvious that people who go out and listen to my music post here as well. Anyway, you get my drift. If it's just "the internet", and you want to stay behind the keyboard and talk smack, then by all means, have at it ;- D
