recommend synth plugins (funky/soul sound)

Post by jyro » Tue Nov 23, 2010 9:48 am

Seeing as I dont have access to good hardware, can someone please recommend the best synth plugins for making sounds ala Starkey, Joker, Dam Funk, Stevie Wonder etc. I'm using fruity loops but I cant seem to get any sounds I like out of sytrus.
Any free plugins as well as costly would be a help too. Thanks!

Closest approximation of the above would be some sort of G-Funk style synth sound I'm guessing. You can do this with 3xOsc quite easily;

I think any synth on the planet can do this. I think those with good filters though are probably best.

Thanks. I'm not the world best at creating my own synth sounds from scratch so usually I start off with a few presets and learn the ropes from there.

it's more about how you play not about the synth, that and browse the basic presets

Use samples and get creative with them;)

Forget the synths.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

seeing as the artists listed don't do a lot of stuff with samples how is that remotely helpful?

to be honest i hate to name specific instruments...

however, trance oriented synths like sylenth, or vanguard may have the type of presets ur looking for...

that is only if u wish to stay on the basic level of things... as u would be a hundred times better following DH's advice...

and u dont need to learn to play the synth perfect .. just learn to vibe with it over a beat

Didn't see where he said that but anyway I would still say forget the synths/presets and play around with sampling if your looking for soul in ur sound.

First line of the post dude. Did you just read the title and respond w/out reading the post itself, by any chance? ;)

Srsly though, I'm guessing it's more about the g-funk style high whiny style synth, in which case apart from sampling said artists, the easiest way to get the sound would be to program a couple of 3xOsc patches as per the videos at the top, then save those and fiddle with some EFX chains on the mixer until you get the shimmery effect you're after.

I did read it and re-read it again. I dont see anywhere where he says he doesnt/cannot sample.
