build up a private network of people you trust with honest feedback both technical and subjective tastes
no need for forums for feedback
especially since if you're posting the entire unedited tune you're slimming your chances of it getting signed, that and streaming sites aren't the best representation of audio quality to gauge off of

i post some tracks on idmf's listening booth, i always get some feedback, often insightful feedback (ie not "cool track bro")

i guess if you play the game and leave feedback yourself, their system works way better than the threads in here (no offense to dsf)

honestly i don't bother with the threads here anymore even reading, because they became spam and dump places for people who don't even participate on the production board like it used to be, they became a new dubs section unfortunately

the best feedback is from people in person who u know really I find. People on the net who u dont know may be into different styles so it can be hard work trying to get decent feedback on the net.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

this imo, the improvements i made in production are mostly thanks to complete strangers on forums who harshly explained me where i failed, then again none of my real life friends are into production so their feedback isn't really useful

I find the system here works just fine so long as you yourself champion what you want. There's quite a few of us now really starting to drill new-comers about posting feedback before posting their own tracks - and once the feedback chain starts it just goes and goes and goes :)

Hey man I'll listen to your stuff too and give you some honest feedback. The finished tracks thread also pisses me off because I listen to about 10+ tracks and leave some comments and no one does the same for me. lol. Its like no one can follow the rules.

Seriously, QQ. I hear this all the time in both those threads, and I have never actually had an issue with it. Maybe because I'm not expecting anything in return?

Hmm. When I showed people tracks I was getting shit back like "snare needs to be harder, kick needs more punch" and shit like that. Then I check their tracks out and they are terrible Techno vengeance drums. They were making something totally different to what I was into and their advice was trying to make my music sound like thats and I really disliked theirs! I found it quite a waste.

Real life friends who are not into production give better feedback. See what they say, see if they can nod their head or want to dance. See if they point out anything they like or dislike. Production is the easy bit, being creative and keeping people interested in ur track is way harder.

fair enough, i'm not saying all the feedback you'll get on forums is going to be constructive, and its true that most of it is going to be "sick track!" and random comments about your drums ("snare needs to be harder, kick needs more punch" deffo sounds familiar :D)the but every once in a while...

and i see what you mean about the "fresh" input someone who has no clue about production can give on music, but for say, mixdowns, and everything in the "technical" side, this kind of feedback wont really help you i reckon

in the end i guess you need a bit of both

mixdowns all depend on what kind of sound ur going for. We all use computers so the mix down should be quite easy really unless ur stupid or trying to put a square peg thru a round hole :D
