When I started out I had this dutch music forum and it gave GREAT feedback, everyone on their gave feedback, because otherwise they wouldnt get any.

I know it works if it is properly monitored, would you guys be interested in a detailed forum purely for feedback?

with standard basic questions like this people CANT ignore:

Mixdown:

Structure:

Synthwork:

etc, so its like a prewritten questionnaire about the track, with good replies otherwise there will be consequences!! :6:

nice if it works and you respect the peoples opinions involved.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

that's how you get objective feedback
this imo, the improvements i made in production are mostly thanks to complete strangers on forums who harshly explained me where i failed, then again none of my real life friends are into production so their feedback isn't really useful
Hmm. When I showed people tracks I was getting shit back like "snare needs to be harder, kick needs more punch" and shit like that. Then I check their tracks out and they are terrible Techno vengeance drums. They were making something totally different to what I was into and their advice was trying to make my music sound like thats and I really disliked theirs! I found it quite a waste.

Real life friends who are not into production give better feedback. See what they say, see if they can nod their head or want to dance. See if they point out anything they like or dislike. Production is the easy bit, being creative and keeping people interested in ur track is way harder.
you're asking the wrong people then
i can ask people for advice on a chill tune who make brostep and get decent advice in general terms not awww man layer a white noise snare here and that because despite what they are known for/produce they have broad taste and good production chops
aka objective
non producer friends just tend to be proverbial ass kissers or have no clue what they're talking about half the time, plus they don't have a clue about levels translating from flat monitors to colored systems / clubs etc

yeh exactly, I dont put any of my new shit on here because I see how it goes in them threads and it dont help very much, I just send them through aim to a few people but I really miss that feedback system and it helped alot, im willing to put it up purely because of that, if other peeps would join in with the same mind setting, it doesnt have to have many users.

most people have the aim icon below their name on the right hand of the screen, if you click it a little window with their screenname pops up

otherwise i would just pm them?

your right serox, unless you want specific feedback on a technical element in your tracks i think its better to get feedback from people who arent producers. Then you can get a real gauge of whether the tune gets people moving/ noddin their head/ just enjoyin the music. Producers are often just interested in the production values of a track. Depends what your after i guess.

my aim is phasedownmusic

I already have another guy helping me on this his name is CBA some of you will probably know him as we found eachother on the forum, we're working on a solid idea now but more help and interest is always appriciated!

hopefully you will be able to build a little aim contact base through a proper feedback place.

This topic has come up a few times recently, and me and PhaseDown have begun working on a dedicated feedback forum based around providing better incentives for experts to give constructive feedback, rather than relying purely on good will. Even the most generous producers don't really have the time to go through that many tunes and give useful comments, especially when people tend to bounce things out knowing full well its probably not ready and the forums are just swamped with crap (no offense intended).

Also, I don't think it really works asking people who are new and looking for feedback themselves to be the main source of feedback for others. I know back when I actually posted tunes for feedback, I didn't feel like I knew enough to really give useful feedback to anyone else. Which is why a lot of people probably dump a track and dont leave anything in return. We want to make a properly moderated and organised place for newbies to get honest/specific feedback from producers who really know what they're doing.

Don't want to reveal too much yet, for the time being its still an idea, but if anyone is interested please get in touch with one of us, we're going to need lots of help eventually.
