I dunno why people like Spaceape so much... I never really got him personally. But damn, this thread is my first time actually listening to James Blake, and I'm blown away.

Re: So, James Blake's...
JB and the music in this thread are dope. I've been listening to this more and more. But for me, and where I've come from, listening to the guitar digifuckery seems reflexive to me. I kind of moved on a while ago, and that kind of stuff in general just lacks a kind of newness for me. As moving and heartfelt as those songs are, they're not fresh to my ears, and for some reason, I'm kind of lazily obsessed with newness. Not disrespecting this stuff, just pointlessly relating my feelings to anonymous strangers who don't give a fuck!

A lot of people say that! I really don't know where they get their idea from hahahaha! I think hes one of the best mcs to ever be on a dubstep track, personally! Hes got some really deep bars.2nd chance wrote:I dunno why people like Spaceape so much... I never really got him personally.

light, bright,

gluttonous failure,

this devious behaviour.
Money, time, very last dime,

Worrying time, head up,

o?
I like James Blake and all, but his version of this doesn't seem like anything special to me. I like Feists original. I couldn't find a high quality of the album version, but it's pretty similar as well.

i'm gonna have to give this a few more listens...

Re: So, James Blake's...
same, fuck the vocoder and find someone better to sing it or just be like bob and sing regardless of how toss your voice is. i'm currently umming over a track as to whether i should use my own vocals or just get someone better to sing it. the vocal was written like 5years ago and still never been recorded.cloak and dagger wrote:but man am I a fucking terrible singer, even with a vocoder
regardless of your decision i'd fuck the vocoder off
Re: So, James Blake's...
I also have never been able to get into Spaceape, it just seems gimmicky to me

Wow, the original is awesome as well. Dunno which version I prefer, both are really good. James Blake is killing it at the moment though, man's got some skills.

Like JB's much better.
Re: So, James Blake's...
Yeah, way too boring, i feel like he's something my parents would listen to, but instead he's considered the best thing since sliced bread, not too impressed.AJGR wrote:i'm not sure about James Blake really. he's clearly very talented, uses awesome sounds but i just don't feel it.

No joke about the deep bars! His lyrics are amazing, I just don't personally like the style and sound of his delivery. Too ethereal and monotone for melegend4ry wrote:A lot of people say that! Re: So, James Blake's...
Agree with the James Blake/ Mount Kimbie stuff being some of the best music this year, but im not sure I would call it dubstep. Also agree with liking vocals in dubstep, and the SpaceApes spoken word style.
I would also like to see more original vocals/ traditional instrument in modern electronic music.
Anyone like the new Darkstar Album?

Besides Aidy, I was kinda disappointed by North, thought the new vocal style didn't work and some songs ended up sounding cheesy

Yeh, it's all about what he's actually saying. Guess his monotone voice kind of just adds to his whole post-apocalyptic, dark lyrics...2nd chance wrote:No joke about the deep bars! ...or some poetic bullshit like that.
I also had quite a hard time getting into James Blake. Also thought he was a bit prissy for the scene, but - oh my fucking god - the guy's a genius. I've been waking up to Mount Kimbie's 'Crooks and Lovers' for about a month now.
Re: So, James Blake's...
I get that, I hear so much about him but i don't get why. He's got something for sure, there are some lush moments. Maybe I need to see him live too, I want to like him.legend4ry wrote:I reallllllllllllllllllllly didn't get james blake at first, nor mount kimbie but hearing kimbie's set at boiler room and hearing that one by james blake "yeah I found her, red coat.. This limit to your love tune sounds poo, I don't know how else to say it. Not a great voice, seriously crap lyrics. It has an air of 'dubstep producer x remixes pop sensation Plan B (or whoever the fuck is on TOTPs at the moment) in the way it jumps between the vocal and electronic parts.
(anyone considering responding with "haters gonna hate" is a spastic)
Re: So, James Blake's...
i don't like that vocal style, never have and probably never will. i'm not judging James Blake on this vocal stuff but the stuff i've heard like the hessle, hemlock and brainmath releases. i should like this, it's got those soul/jazz melodies, synth sounds that make me cream my pants but it's missing something...
i think he's gonna have to release something that i would want to play before i can really enjoy his music. i need to hear something that makes me want to do this
i guess it's only a matter of time though.
