that's completely ridiculous

people aren't allowed to be influenced then? you're saying that none of your tunes bare any resemblance to any other artist in the history of music?

There's a difference between being influenced by, and making their music.

I'm saying I despise my music, if it sounds like someone else.

He put them all together. He doesn't own the individual components, but he has a very distinct sound. I'm sure there are other ways to use 2 step beats, pitched vocals and ambient soundscapes.

what about svpreme fiend? (sorry to draw you in mate lol)

from what i've seen on here you seem to really like his stuff, what's the difference?

you can see similarities in all 3, but they are all distinctly different, and awesome!

When it sounds like an artist, and you can't hear anything from the producer in it.

For example, the beat on this sounds like South London Boroughs, rearranged, with a vocal slapped over it.

I can see the similarities in all three. Fiend is obviously influenced by Burial, but he's taken that influence and made his own sound out of it. It has 2-step beats, pitched vocals and ambient soundscapes, but I can tell a Fiend tune when I hear it. There's something in it.

Synkro, if you didn't put his name on it, could be any youtube producer.

i still think all three are distinct, i could pick out each one from the other

but i guess we'll just have to agree to disagree

This one sounds a lot like Burial, just has a classic 2 step beat on it, rather than that broken / ghosts of 2 step style of programming Burial tends to favour.

if the argument is about soundin like burial listen to the Box Clever 10" that he put out and see how his style has progressed, and tbh i always thought synkro sounded more housey/trancey than garagey...

tbh, im not even a massive fan of his tunes, i do think they're a bit samey, but i think that saying 'this is guy isn't all that cos he sounds like this other guy' is just pretentious crap

an artist might make a tune that sounds like another artist but if its a good tune then thats what it is, its a whole load of other stuff that means when you hear a tune and say 'i like this tune because it sounds like it was made by producer x' then when you find out its by 'producer y' you say... 'oh i dont like it anymore'

the point is that it annoys me when people dismiss music cos it has a sound you associate with another artist, not just because you dont like the tune in the first place

Had no idea that everybody would be such pricks about it.

My friend told me something kinda funny, and you guys just went ahead and made it shitty.

For the record, I can't even remember any Synkro tunes I've heard.

The first thing I said about Synkro was that I found him dull. No mention of him sounding like someone else, until later on. Even without Burial. Synkro would bore me.

It is possible to use the same elements as Burial, and do something different with them. It's a shame more people don't

Sully - Phonebox has pitched vocals, 2 step drums, ambient pads and sounds nothing like Burial.
