Easy all,

Got a new instrumental up on the Soundcloud, which you can hear here -

Soundcloud

Looking for a new vocalist to work with for this one, preferably a Soul, Folk or Indie singer. If you are interested, or know anybody who might be, let me or them know :W:

Hope you enjoy the instrumental never-the-less! If you wish to leave feedback, I will of course return all :D:

similarly if i want to post a link to my tunes and ask for feedback without giving any then thats my perogative :D:
yeah it's actually the only rule on this forum, and in retrospect, i should have just pointed that out immediately before resorting to being a dick. my apologies for the unnecessary clutter and dickery. :w:

but the point of this thread is for everyone to get feedback and for everyone to improve, so hopefully you can understand my annoyance.

This is the first post of the thread:

You don't have to post feedback, if you want to comes across like a douche.

Anyways, lets keep things relevant. I have left feedback on the last page, so here's my newest production. Would love to get some feedback. Particularly in regards to mixdown:

This thread is full of respectable members of the forum, who come on, day in day out, read posts, enjoy the banter.... They have just finished new songs, they RESPECTABLY leave other members feedback, and in return, they get other members opinions. Sometimes a new guy comes along and posts up there song without leaving feedback, the respectable members point out that to get feedback, they should maybe give a little feedback... so they apologise and give some feedback...... THEN every now and then an ignorant prick comes along (personal attack, i dont give a shit) and acts like a complete dickhead toward some respectable members of the forum and thinks he is far more superior or whatever bullshit and thinks he doesnt need to give feedback.... not how it works im afraid.

if you want feedback on your songs (which are probably going to be shit anyway) not gonna bother taking the time of day to listen because of your ignorance, then give feedback to others! we could all come on here and not post feedback and expect feedback on our own songs... but then this thread wouldn't exist would it? because nobody would be giving feedback. it certainly isn't rocket science.

Stop arguing and give me some feedback mofuhkas. You've pushed my track right back without any feedback now with all of your moaning

If somebody spams and demands feedback, just ignore them... They'll give up spamming when they realise it doesn't work. :W:

@ Bugsky- LOVE the crackles and atmos at the beginning. Really not big on that snare sound but the drop really works. I'd play it out no question.

@ Green plan- Like this vibe, something not right about the piano sound to me, just a bit too staccato? Dig that snare sound.

@ Topmo/Lassikolossi- Nuit sounds all done really, love that sub. Nice crossover sort of style. Right as rain- now this is cool. Got that wonky Bonobo hip-hoppy thing going on. Cant criticise it to be honest.

You can't seriou[BLEEEEEEEEEEEEP] It's no use saying saying "just ignore it if you don't like it", as you pointed out it pushes back the posts of other people who actually did give lots of feedback. It's not at all complicated.

yeah, again sorry for the clutter my comment caused
EDIT: but i still do think that people need to be told the rules... :w:

@bugsky: i really liked the percussion on this. it flows nicely and grooves. the pads are also a very nice touch, really make it feel big. i think that some more melody would be nice, but that may not be what you're going for, in which case, the piano and synth that you use are perfect. but i liked them so much i think you should use them more :6: . the track progresses nicely too, it all flows and the sections compliment each other well. :4:

@wirez: i'd love to hear some vocals over this if you're able to make it happen. the choir pad sounds freakin sweet, but i feel like you should maybe cut it on some parts for effect? everything else works really nicely with each other, and i sort of think the pad might overtake them a bit too much. i especially liked the little 8th note melody you had going on, very mellow and groovy. i was bobbin my head along with it the whole time. :D

@mrhello: good atmospheric work, everything flows really nicely and seem to melt into each other. it was a pretty cool experience listening to your tune. i think it may have been a bit too repetitive, but that's my taste. also, some more high end, either melody or otherwise, would make it "sparkle" a bit more. a great tune for the end of a long night though, good work dude. :D:

if you guys have a minute, a comment or two on the track in my sig would be awesome. it's some liquidy drum and bass, i'm reworking it currently to make the high hats shuffle more, i've eq'd it a bit more to make the individual instruments stand out, but if you have any comments on how to clean up the muddiness or anything else you notice i'd love the feedback, thanks in advance. :5:

Cheers. I agree really, doesn't need to be 8/9 minutes long, just not sure how else to arrange it. I've noticed the vocal part doesn't really come through at all, losing most of the high end, so fair enough.

Musically/structurally yours is really sound but it all needs some crisping up. The drums could kick so much harder and that synthline needs some weight. I think the hats are too fast and wild, they need to let the rest of the track breathe a bit, but nice sounds.

@ Johnst:

Like the shakers and the fact its stepping, nice stereo spread

drums are nicely panned

probs need to review the current levels of the track.

Personally, i dont really like the sound of the synth, a bit too cheesy for me.

Try to strengthen your drum sounds so theyre more in your face they lack punch and i would also change the levels of the higher frequency percussion because due to the synth youve chosen having such a thick texture its quite easy to drown those particular sounds

infact, in my opinion, i think the track would benefit from a more softly textured instrument replacing the main synth like a rhodes or something because you comprise the clarity of the rest of the song. 3:01 is a good example were the song has a much more clear sound but as soon as the synth comes back in things are drowned.

like the vocal pads, think the bass could be less robotic

Thanks for the feedback mate, will be returning on your Soundcloud for you :D:

The thing is with cutting things for effect on vocal-based tracks is that they may clash with the vocals, so if I was to do anything like that I'd make sure that I have the vocals in place first so that I know where and when to cut things, you know? If this track was intended to stay as an instrumental I completely understand what you're saying, as it's a major part of the track it definitely would have needed some extra alteration to keep it moving! - Good call.

I'll reassess the pad levels once I've got the vocals in place too, thanks for that I'll keep my ears open :)

The '8th note melody' is actually a rhode, it's the overdrive on the speaker cabinet making it sound crushed :W:

Thanks again mate!

@imetik: honestly do appreciate the feedback, it was thoughtful and helpful. now that i listen to it more i definitely agree with the synth. i was going for something large but it sort of just makes things undefined...
in regards to your tunes: dark house is aptly named. i really like the crackly atmosphere to it, i think it gives it an original edge in regards to house stuff. the kick is pretty dirty too, maybe just a tad bit too distorted imo, but it sounds good as is if that's what you're aiming for. that vocal sample you used is fucking awesome, fits the track very well, and i don't know how you did it but in my headphones it actually sounds like it's about 10 meters to my left and front. really interesting effect. is this song just a clip though? the bell synth and bass that come in at the end sound really good and move it forward, but then it ends. i was hoping to hear some more. overall, i think this would be really fun in a dark room with a strobe :)
more trife life remix: i enjoyed this a lot. maybe the intro was a tad long, but when it drops it sounds nice, and again, great work with the vocals, although i think you should use a lot more of them, they just sound too cool. more variation on the hats and a little bit of subtle added percussion could benefit the track too i believe. but the horn and the pads are spot on. perfect atmosphere there. it's well done. :e:
again, i really am sorry for the original dick comment. it was unnecessary. look forward to hearing more of your tracks man.

@wirez: ahh, i see what you mean with the vocal thing. i've yet to work with vocals so i'm a bit clueless when it comes to that -r- . and clever with the rhodes... :D

@mrhello: yup, the technical aspects are my weakest point. i'll just have to keep working on that. in regards to the high hats, that's a good call. i was trying to make them interesting and fast but they're kinda reminiscent of being on crack. thank you for the comments!

@Whyrez: Pretty tight sounding track, look forward to hearing it with vocals. Nice bass tone. This track sounds as finished as you can get in my opinion and just needs aforementioned vocals.

@A-List:
distance: Nice chill vibe. Loving the DEEPNESS of the bass. Must sound amazing on a proper system instead of where I am currently hearing it.
Shallow Roads (Foul Matta Special): This one is probably too ambient for my taste. Nice percussion elements going on like the change at 2:38. Any ideas I would have for this song would change the overall vibe of this track so its probably best to leave it at that.

@mr hello: lol another ambientstep track. This one is pretty cool though. Nice progression which makes me feel like the song is taking me on a journey. That's probably the main problem I had with the foul matta song above was the bass playing the same note again. Like the pads at used in the track. Overall it has a very cinematic feel to it and can see it being synced to video.

@Johnst: Definitely an interesting track. The sub bass hits a note that sounds odd at around 0:42 mark. Maybe thats intentional. Dig the bass solo at 2:15. Real deep sounding at the spot. Don't hear as many lead based tracks as this one around here so it was cool to hear something different.

@wirez: I love the pads, the beat is pretty sick, you did a really good job on this! I want to hear it again when it has the vocals on it :D

@bugsky: the atmosphere is dope! drums are awesome as well, the snare is a+, I really like the snare :W: everything flows together really well

@impey: nice sub, my room is shaking right now hahaha, the percussion is nice and everything is super chill. For some reason your tune reminds me of sensual seduction by snoop dogg -w- must be the progression, anyways good job! :W:

anyways heres a tune for me, still needs mastering though :[ any thoughts, comments, feedback are much appreciated

@ Whyrez

Nice pads - Feel like that kick could have some more punch to it! Feeling the synth what comes in at :29 - the melody is nice - though could do with some subtle delay on it or something, its a bit dry! The drum beat is a bit repetitive - could do with some bit of varation. The floaty synth is nice too - Its a track - I just don't like the drums (the sound of them nor the groove!)

@ Impey - Distance: btw - that avatar is the best! haha.

I love the jungley-esque pad - the little bells are great too! That groove is to die for, the little subtley in the percs and how they're so clean in the mix is beautiful. I would say though that the panning on the percs and their volume distracts you away from the kick/snare! The second sound what comes in half way through the drop is great, would love to hear some more hats or at least them turned up in the mix though.

320 me?

@ Bugsky

I really like the atmosphere and the melodies in this one, they work together so beautifully, its a proper mover - I also like the low passed reese bassline I am a sucker for people who use them well! On the drums - I really like the groove you've created but I really dislike the sound of them but then again I am not a huge fan of electronic sounding drums! Great track though - 320 me? :)

Heres my new bit - fancied doing something out of my comfort zone..

cant help but think the drums could be a little more full or snappy. like the rhodes, and the main pads are nice. not really my thing much (bit too garagey for my tastes) but seems well done enough.
bugsky wrote:

nice incidentals in the intro. i like the feel of the drop, but theres something innately unsatisfying about the drums (particularly kick and snare anyway) - i just dont think they go either with eachother or the vibe of the track. nice percussion and stuff though, and lovely atmosphere.
mr hello wrote: Soundcloud
feeling the intro - nice distorted pads, slight boards of canada kinda feel to them (good). yeah i like this, nice washed out sound, would be good to stick on at the end of the night when the drugs are wearing off!

feels a little closed if that makes any sense. the drums could probably do with sticking out a bit more, atmospheres could be wider, generally needs some more in the way of clarity with regards to mixdown. musically - im not particularly keen to be honest, not really feeling the main melody, and it doesnt really have a huge amound of drive or energy (which dnb needs to be effective really) and it sounds like you've tried to cram a few too many ideas into it.
legend4ry wrote:Soundcloud
like the finger clicks and the little brush roll thing. that lead thing that slides up and down is a bit on the irritating side though - especially as theres some weird frequency in there that is kinda attacking my lobes. seems a bit empty - almost like its not finished... mix is fine though.

tune is in sig if anyone can be arsed to listen...
