Thought I'd dust off the cobwebs on my copy of Ableton and start a new track. It's just at the idea stage at the min and I haven't worked on the drums at all apart from putting down a very basic beat.
Thinking the bass might be a bit OTT so looking at getting a few more bass sounds together to form the basis of the bassline as well as toning it down a touch.
Any ideas?

@sectionattack
mate huge tune! id leave the bassline as it is, id strongly advise you to change the kick drum though! needs to sound more sharper and less noisy in my opinion! also maybe a catchy melody in the drop!

this is my updated version, added another bassline! let me know what you think! :D

#luke raith

a bit long and dull intro tbh. I liek the drop. SWEEEEEEEET ass sounds you managed to make dude :) credit!!!! but I think the melody kinda ruins it :/ 1:23 is very cool. nice produced mate... but I'd make some more work on the songstructure and the melody..! gonna be fun to hear the finished piece :)

#s3f

interesting intro! I don't like that organ though :/ sounds weird. the first part of the drop is really cool... I love the wib e and the atmos. but at 0.52 and onwards... nope sorry mate I don't like that :/ not a fan of that synth. though it gets a bit interesting again at 1.25! interesting track overall... :) I hope my feedback helped and dont take it to personal ;)

#fatach

nice intro! :) but MORE kick!!!! the peep before the drop is really annoying and way too loud. drop got nice strucutre but not really the right sounds for it. I like 1.49 to the end! :)

over to my wip..
this was kind of a joke and I did it cause I was bored, but it turned out quite nicely :P haha, havent worked shit on drums and snare and hihats, mostly on the glitching :P tell me what you think! first time ever doing anything like this.

I hope I get more than one response this time :u:

sweet sound man! On the drop it would be nice with an addition though so it doesn't sound all the same, other than that it's really well done! Keep it up
LukeRaith
Nice sounding bass :) I think the piano and the bass sound kind of off tune when played together though, fix that!!
superginger
first of all, great idea!! Drop is very sweet! I would change the drums though to more powerful ones, anyway keep it up bro

@ Superginger- not my bag but does the job. Production is pretty tight.

@ Luke Raith- the sounds are all there but the piano doesn't fit, too dry. I guess it's the bass sound you're going for, but the actual bassline pattern is a bit tacky. Definitely stronger production-wise than musically.

@ Tek 9- (not the Tek 9? Or is that Tek 1?) Crazy, the craziness is maybe too much louder than the rest when it drops but the structure works and the sounds fit together. I like when the extra hats/cymbals are brought in.

One of mine that's still all over the place, looks a bit squished in the soundcloud waveform too.

@ninthy4
Love the intro, hits hard for sure. I like the drop a lot, but I wish it hit harder. Maybe if you added another beat of silence right before, or lowered the volume of the intro a little bit it would hit a little harder. Otherwise I really like it, the synths really are mean. I can feel the groove really hard (especially in the end) and that's awesome.

@mr hello
The percussion is awesome. I love how the different hits come from different places in the stereo field... definitely intriguing to my spliffed up head at the moment. The intro feels a bit long when the vocals start coming in and you take the percussion out though. Maybe if you just left a hi-hat or something on it it would pull me along more. I'm not as big a fan of the mellower stuff, but the drums on this are really kick ass. Keep me interested the whole time.

I'm posting one of my first dubstep tunes for feedback. I come from a background of trying to make like... boards of canada animal collectivey stuff but I find I can't help but bob my head when a dubstep song comes on and I love that feel. I've always been a big fan of reggae and ska but I was more interested in synthesizers than guitar so I've been really digging trying to make dubstep.

Anyway, this song isn't really in the style of a lot of the really incredible music I hear on this thread (I check in often because I love the new sounds) and I'm really envious of the really complex rhythms that a lot of people here get. I was drawn to the music a lot because of the polyrhythms... in any case enough rambling. I'm just taking babysteps in that direction, hopefully. Here's my tune, I'd love to get some of your thoughts on it, as I think everyone here has a really interesting perspective on the genre. It's my first time so... be gentle. ;]

@sectionattack - man that intro was huge and I felt like you really lost it at the drop... I'd probably eq off the high end of the bassline in the intro and definitely give some more punch to your percussion

@lukeraith - liking the reversed snare before main hit. Kick is nice and punchy, but the bassline is missing a lot of oomph - and I don't think the piano really fits all that well with the synth.

@superginger - haha, tainted love, the marilyn remix no less! Really nice work so far man. I reckon the lead is probably a little too glitchy, but that's just imo. Otherwise fiiiiine work so far :D

@ninthy4 - man those stabbing synths at the start are really nice and cold. And that growling synth you've got in the intro amps me up big time, love it! The intro lead synth definitely needs a little something more to cut it away from the main drop so that the drop stands out a bit more. I also feel like your snare is being caught up byt he rest of the synths - need to notch it out a bit of the lead I think, or give the snare a bit more of a boost.

@mrhello - loving the atmospheres mate, beautiful intro. The vocal stabs are really, really nice. That sub layer you've got going before the drop, although not anything special, certainly sits very well in the mix. Lovely work. I disagree with @bevoh saying something isn't sitting right - sounds fine to me! :)

@doctorharlow - too much going on mate, and you need to work on the mix of your percussion. They're getting lost badly ;) The vocals you've dropped in later are really quite nice though. I think all the elements genreally work quite well, the levels just need some attention.

@bevoh - your synths need some eq'ing. They're taking up too much of the spectrum imo, which makes the whole track sound muddy.

Okay so here's an update to a track I started a while back in October.

@superginger - slick production. im only listening on my laptop, but the sounds are all pretty tight. just thinking some more movement might be nice. synth line gets a bit boring at the end. also, maybe more of a change in dynamics from the intro to the drop.

@mr hello - bare like this. think you should make more of the vocal samples. they sound quite nice from what i can hear. also switch up the swell thing, it sounds good, but jsut gets a bit repetitive. just work out some chord sequence or something. drums are heavy. maybe some modulation on the hits, just so they dont sound so sampley if ya catch my drift. but thats more of a opinion thing, so whatever.

@doctor harlow - interesting. think there is a lot of potential. think theres too much distortion going on. and when the vocoder comes in, the track sounds like it could be a really nice chilled song if it was mixed differently. are you goin for a sort of dirty sound? the lead synth sounds a bit odd. not gritty enough for a dirty track, but too loud for a chilled track.

heres one ive started. trip hop plunderphonics stuff

@ Superginge- sounds good,think things could be switched up a bit more to keep the energy of the drop going but nice work otherwise

@ Ninthy4- heavy track,love it,not really my type of thing,but i appreciate the grimyness.big

@samkablam- really nice,maybe brighten up some of the high end,nice progression to the track,maybe try make the transitions more subtle.

Hope that helps folks. Havent been on here in donkeys as i havent really been producing alot of dubstep. Anyways,this is a bit im workin on along with other things.quite deep. Would love some feedback please

@Mortal: I like the intro. The drum samples are cool. The strings sound good, but some of the riffs sound a little off. To me, it might sound a little better if you change a note here and there. Other than that it sounds good.

@Kes-Es: That bass is sick. I especially like the "uhhh" vocal sound you mixed in.

@superginger: The intro sounds good. It has a lot of potential. As soon as you add a drop and let the drums come through it's going to be an awesome track.

@ninthy4: I like how liquid the bass sounds. It is like it's swishing around back and forth. I also like the upbeat drop.

Here is my revision of the track I posted last time. Changed up the synths and added an intro of sorts. Tell me what you think.

@section attack
Im liking the basic idea you've got going there but the buildup could use even something simple drums wise and I don't know about the bass. but it sounds like if you put some work into it it would end up a banger

@superginger

Love the idea absolutely quality maybe punch out the snare a little more. amazing idea all the same jealous I didn't think of it first :P

@mr hello

Absolutely love this track its sickeningly chill maybe turn that very quiet noise in the background that sounds like "Wawom" up the tiniest bit still love this track well done man

@DoctorHarlow

Bass is drowning out absolutely drowning out absolutely everything maybe tone it down a bit. Maybe double time the drums in the really bass heavy part for some contrast ? nice idea though Im liking it

@amphibian

very very cool maybe the tiniest bit more melody or or noise might help some of the melody lacking parts of the song

Anyway I wrote this earlier I dont know I know theres serious quality issues but just curios as to everyones opinions on it. Dont worry I dont bite :)

Cheers for that. Yeah I think it loses something in the build up, there's definitely things to be improved. The pad part is boring yes, but pretty rushed.

I can definitely feel Boards of Canada / Animal collective in this. Some of that percussion in the build up seems slightly off but gives it a weird groove that's cool in itself. The first half is a lot stronger than the second, it just loses the vibe you've made, distorted synth doesn't work for me to be honest. You could really just build on that first theme, ramp up the volume and get all the dirt from the drums (ala fuck buttons perhaps)

@ Amphibian- Nice and minimal. I really think you could just throw that snare around a bit from half-time every so often and it would give it something. The chords in the second section seem a bit too neat and churchy, could do with some darker lo-fi stuff maybe.

@ Samblalkblam (oops)- really nice, weird, weird style. All the sounds are cool but the voices/drums don't fit for me. Maybe use them both more sparingly? Love ll the twisted vocals. Moby? Agree on the pad parts in reference to mine, cheers.

Skydroid- Wawom? With the really long delay? Anyway, your track. First bit is wicked, the bass that comes in in the second sounds so overused and under-produced compared to the rest of it. Keep that first vibe I say, just make a bit denser. Got a slightly loose flying-lotus thing going on there, nice.

Semi finished, drums are not right.

Sup Y'all..
I just make a bit up dub for fun, any feedback would be sweet. I think the thing I suffer with the most is the structure of my tracks but probably loads of other stuff too.

Ediso, Do it live - This has really good potiential man - my only critcism is the actual sound of the wobble needs adjusting in my opinion.

Mr Hello - The pad gets a bit repetitive, think it also needs to be toned down so it is easier on the ears, the bass sounds good but a little distorted, maybe cut out some frequencies? I like the vocal you have chosen, but overall you need to adjust the sounds of each instrument

Skydroid - Very distorted/muddy like you said, why is that? the drop ruins the song and you also need to adjust the sounds of each instrument.

DoctorHarlow - Woah youneed to cut those frequencies so much distortion like nails on a chalkboard :o , but everything else seems sweet especially vocals and song structure keep it up dude

@mr hello I like the ambience on this one all the instruments really seem to blend my only small criticism is the drums sound a little wimpy maybe layer some sounds? still a really cool track

@doctorharlow i think the obvious problem is the distortion being so overpowering but def got some potential i like what im hearing with what i think is a vocoder haha its kind of hard to tell

@bevoh your stuff is kind of surprising because you seem not to like your tracks according to your channel but there are some moments in their that are worthwhile and then there are moments where things just get muddy for no reason in terms of structure

go easy please?
