its youtube. the majority of its users are trendy little homophobe. kids. people listening to real dubstep usually arent listening to it on youtube its on vinyl or 320's. i laugh cuz i have a younger brother who would sit there with his youtube playlist and play all the gayest poppy 1mil+ views "dubstep" tunes one after another from youtube and i would literally just facepalm every time. i tried converting him to some real shit but some people just dont get itInput_1 wrote:Borgore - Love; 1million+ youtube views

i know that the 'filthy' sound is flooding in from across the globe, this is good and bad.
It's has a positive influence because what started as a UK genre has spread across the world, showing that the UK underground scene is ever-expanding.
It's also good because it shows that the genre as a whole has evolved, developing different strains and styles.
However, i think that 'filthy dubstep' has turned ever-growing into a contest, who can get the most ridiculous, skull shattering wobble, the maddest drop,
sickest speech sample ect. And of course, the most grotesque comment. I think that people who name this solely as 'dubstep' aren't helping the scene. It almost robs the magic of some earlier releases, which were most about holding back, creating the mood, with a huge, warm sub-bass, the 'bass' that made dubstep. The dubstep 'bass', to many new filth fans, isn't a sub bass, it's a huge, earth-shattering LFO bass.
I have a few reservations about this; Dubstep is at the forefront of the hardcore-continuum, the lineage of the UK underground scene, which is teaming with history, i find this fascinating, the idea that such a complex sonic history has churned out these genres, from early 90's hardcore to UK Funky. Fans new to scene, purely listening to filth, may not releases this? Often the scene progresses by diving back into the sonic history books, cross pollinating genres, to create a whole new sound, dubstep is a prime example of this. 2-step and Dub rolled into one.
There is a plethora of labels such as Hyperdub, Hessle Audio, Applepips, Digital Soundboy with artists pushing the boundaries in other ways such as Kode 9, Ikonika, Burial, Breakage, Peverlist, Appleblim, Blawan, Zomby, to name a few? i've heard this sound be named, as merely 'Stoner-step'. Which i don't think is exactly fair, the production value is high, and artist try and focus purely on the music, rather than the image, which i deeply respect.
Thoughts?
I don't mean to sound as though i'm sniping down any filth fans, i'm sure alot of them do know the roots ect, i'm talking from my sort of experience.
I'm not trying to offend anyone, i'm observing, not commenting.

I don't think 'Filth' is ruining the scene per se.
I think it's the willfully ignorant fans of 'Filth' that are ruining the scene.
Dubstep has always been about embracing new and different musical styles and has never been out exclusion and divisiveness, until now it seems.
It gets right on my wick when fans of the heavier, filthier dubstep loudly proclaim "XYZ is not dubstep" and their sole justification is that it's not filthy enough for them, or it doesn't have a fat enough drop, or it doesn't bring to mind filthy images like skullfucking a dead dog that they can comment on the youtube vid. Or my biggest annoyance "XYZ is more dubsteppy, or dubstep-ier, than ABC"
Actually, I think saying willfully ignorant is a bit rude. Not all of them are. Many are just new to dubstep and their first exposure is the filthier stuff so they have no concept of the amazing range of music that dubstep can incorporate.

Re: is 'Filth' ruining the scene?
What's wrong with a bit of 'filty' Dubstep. I'd never have come across artists such as Ghosthack, Burial, Kryptic Minds, Mala etc if I didn't listen to stuff like Borgore, Flux Pavillion, & Funtcase.

No Filth isn't ruining the scene at all it's narrow minded fuckers who think they are musically superior to everyone else that are ruining the scence. Litsen to what the fuck you want to dont let gobshites who only listen mala, burial, loefah to fit in and seem cool ect tell you what to listen to. Don't get me wrong i like all types of dubstep but i'm getting sick of people moaning about filth or brostep or whatever these arseholes call it!!!

Re: is 'Filth' ruining the scene?
Tbh I'd listen to the heavier types of dubstep more unless I'm in a weird moody where I would go for more atmospherics rather than "brostep" , this is why filth has gotten so big I think.
It's more accessible due to its RAW energy compared to, lets say "traditional" dubstep, and I'm glad for it because I'd prefer for there to be a flood of hipster kids to the "filthy" stuff rather than the more pure stuff. The scene is flooded with wobble bass producers which makes it easy to find any amount of "party" style tunes (after a bit of a dig through the useless shite, but you can always rely on most big names) but yet the deeper traditional dubstep is still mainly by a relatively small amount of producers but this the quality high imo.
I can't see it being a bad thing that filth is becoming big, I'd prefer to listen to Doctor P in a club than David Guetta?
There's nothing wrong with a good shank every now and again!
Keep safe,
Kieran

Re: is 'Filth' ruining the scene?
It shouldn't matter what the "filth" movement is doing. It's not stopping anyone from making good tunes. It also sounds like you're more concerned about the scene than the actual music. There's been so many amazing releases on the deeper side this year and they clearly outshine the filth. I don't have a problem with either type of dubstep but its pretty hard to take filth serious from a musical perspective.
Also look where dubstep is going. James Blake, Jack Sparrow, eleven tigers, ect. are taking it to the next level and doing something that will make them last; progressing. Filth cant go away from a mid range wobble with out being filth and it's eventually going to become boring (if not already).
If you don't like it, don't listen to it and continue listening to what you love.
