Do you sidechain everything?

Well if you like subby kicks like me, its the way to do it, I find it really gives the track that thwack!

if i want to do that, i'll just write my subline so that it isnt hitting when the kicks are.

I also like the sub level to go up with some attack to give a track some throb so thats another reason I do it.

yeah, so far i've always felt better with the results when i just have a deeper sub, because i love deep sub...

yeah i did something like that when i still used fl - link the peak controller to a few bands on an eq, so the bass comes out when the kick hits, 200hz ( etc.) comes out when the snare hits. much more subtle effect.

is there a vst3 eq that i can do this with actually? id quite like to try it some more but cant be arsed with fl anymore.

i will use it on pads and stuff in the high end and use my hihats to control the gate if i want them to stand out a bit more. i never use it on my sub and kik, it can get great results but its not my method.

I do a shit ton of sidechaining tbh. Sometimes yeah almost everything is either going through a sidechained comp or gate or being the key for one. I use it for a creative tool as well as for creating headroom. Not ashamed of it at all. Love compressors. The only thing I don't use them for is for turning my tracks in to bricks of audio... dynamics is your friend!

i tend to see sidechaining in simple hard hitting dubstep only as a way (one of the best) to give space to certain sounds. if u understand sidechaining, u will be able to give ur mix a lot of space by tweaking stuff...

however, proper arrangement should always be ur main focus... its the best way to have a great mix.

i could then risk myself and say that typical dubstep doesnt rely on the same rythmic principles then house. in my very personal view... house, in its most usual form, is meant to form a single ''wall of sound'' type groove wheareas dubstep is more meant to form a ''sound tide''( !!!---»») if you ask me («----!!!)... im often trying to mix the two (wish ill be able someday)...

everything often means too much, however it all depends on how and why its done... i could imagine a dubstep beat where everything is sidechained and its beautiful..
