Re: Where can I find Formant Filters?
Everyone's been a noob at one point but those of us who aren't retards learned what we know by doing research and experimenting on our own, not by blindly starting a thread on a forum and immediately getting all the answers.
It's like running into NASA headquarters and shouting "OMG liek how do I get to the moon?! Can you give me directions??"
Imagine if that happened every day and there were lineups of people all asking the same thing. Eventually the employees at NASA would be like "WTF no! Where the hell are all these fucking people coming from? Read the giant fucking sign on the front door that tells you about our astronaut training programs! Did you not just hear me shout that at the guy before you?"
The fact that they blatantly ignore all the shit in caps at the top of the forum and don't even bother to scroll down the page to see if their question has already been answered warrants the minute amount of ridicule they get from forum members.
It's not that hard, there's new members that will post some awesome links or a tutorial in their first few posts and they're rewarded with a warm reception in return. If I'm new to a forum I'll read the rules and lurk for a while to read up on past threads and learn how things work. I wouldn't just fire off a thread without checking the place out first, for fear of looking like an idiot. Those who don't possess that fear usually end up looking like idiots and getting flamed, simple. It's internet Darwinism.

Cuz posting on a forum isnt research, and lets also assume they is blindly posting, and also want all the awnsers.SunkLo wrote:Everyone's been a noob at one point but those of us who aren't retards learned what we know by doing research and experimenting on our own, not by blindly starting a thread on a forum and immediately getting all the answers.
Hmm, ever considered there question aint been awnsered**?
sadly, most of todays new generation aint programed to sit down and focus on one thing and learn stuff about it by thereselves, simple as, gotta deal with it, times are changing, fast.
Mabie NASA should take a second look at there "astrinaut training programs".SunkLo wrote: It's like running into NASA headquarters and shouting "OMG liek how do I get to the moon?! Can you give me directions??"

a few assumtions later, and all the ridicule's been warented.. kSunkLo wrote:The fact that they blatantly ignore all the shit in caps at the top of the forum and don't even bother to scroll down the page to see if their question has already been answered warrants the minute amount of ridicule they get from forum members.
you explained why it happens very well, dont mean its right tho... internet dawinism.. ah scheet i dont even wana go there, i wont stop typing..SunkLo wrote:It's not that hard, there's new members that will post some awesome links or a tutorial in their first few posts and they're rewarded with a warm reception in return. lets just say, evolution only alow things to evolve as good as the system it is evolving in is.
think its a question thats been awnsered a million times? and your sick of hearing it? then stop listening, stop looking, its not like your working for NASA, your not getting paid, you dont have to read it, thats cool, let the people who are happy too deal with it deal with it.. simple..

Re: Where can I find Formant Filters?
The only reason I brought the thread back up was because I thought the point was warranted to be read by more people. The fact that people decided to argue about something that they will never agree upon is not my fault. Label me. I truly don't care.deadly habit wrote:

Yeah but it has. If it hadn't, your argument would have a bit of weight. But "Where can I find formant filters?" is a question that is answered in the Production Bible, which proves they're blindly posting without doing research. If they had read the stickies, etc. or bothered to do a google search they wouldn't have needed to ask the question.Bipolar wrote:Cuz posting on a forum isnt research, and lets also assume they is blindly posting, and also want all the awnsers.

Then this generation ain't programmed to make music. You're saying we should just accept the fact that certain people have no discipline, attention span, basic resourcefulness, moderate level of intelligence, etc.? And that we should spoon feed them the information they want? Why do you think people are like that in the first place? I would rather reward the people who are polite, respectful and who can manage to make an effort to help themselves and understand that music is a difficult thing that will require a certain amount of work.Bipolar wrote:sadly, most of todays new generation aint programed to sit down and focus on one thing and learn stuff about it by thereselves, simple as, gotta deal with it, times are changing, fast.
The NASA analogy was meant to point out that learning to make music like "the pros" isn't going to come from someone giving you directions. You're going to need a lot of experience, otherwise everyone would be doing it.
I'm not making any assumptions at all. I can reasonably state that anyone who asks very noobish questions has not read the Bible or the other threads because their question would have been answered there. It would be completely different if it were something like "Ok I've done some reasearch on formant filters thanks to the Production Bible and downloaded a couple of demos/freeware. I'm having a hard time getting [X] sound. Does anyone have any insight on how I might be able to get closer?" But most of the time it's questions that are verbatim out of the Bible or another thread on the page. That's just pure laziness.
Having an alpaca posted as a reply is a pretty fair response and a hint to dig a bit deeper and have a look around.

a damn good idea. separate analysis of the past from the push forward into new production realms and funnel the noob questions into one spot.tripwire22 wrote:YA YA YA sound is kinda wanted too much nowadays though its like all people want to do. plus instead of looking around they make more shit topics. i kinda think we should start a new mass thread where we de-construct and artists Signature sound-- IE Bar9 or someone so that anyone who looks in the thread can learn how to make that sound. Yes No?
Re: Where can I find Formant Filters?
i didnt read any of the nonsense posted after the original post.
OP:
im not sure which DAW youre using but i was able to make that sound with the effects that ableton came with. im not sure how universal some are but the redux effect is where i got the YOY sound from. i hope that helps.
also, it helps to experiment. thats how i figured it out.

You guys heard of the "Delay Lama" Vsti? It's a shame it sounds so high passed but it can nonetheless emulate all kinds of vowels with it's built in formant filter and has a formant shift on top of it. (every parameter is automatable) Best thing about it: it's free! http://www.kvraudio.com/get/226.html

Indeed, it + the filterbank on its mixer track = all you need really, Im convinced I could make an entire tune with just an instance of atlantis, well mapped, and an instance of the filter, never tried though...futures_untold wrote:More parameters than Massive you say?![]()
I do like the way you can use any sample as your waveform, and apply phase width modulation to those custom waveforms....
And the waveforms... I have a chip pack I made out of the major massive wavetables, though you cant lfo/envelope the wavetable itsself like you can in massive, it saves tons of CPU, gives me an inbuilt delay-reverb that kicks massive's in the teeth, the lfo combiners, ect.

Re: Where can I find Formant Filters?
The filter selection isn't as nice as massive's though and I have problems getting gritty piss out of this without the built in LP filter sounding extremely wimpy in the high mid range (kinda like FL Studio's Fast LP filter).Basic A wrote: Indeed, it + the filterbank on its mixer track = all you need really, Im convinced I could make an entire tune with just an instance of atlantis, well mapped, and an instance of the filter, never tried though...

I'd recommend FMMF as a free massive alternative, it's a little harder to understand but you can basically do anything with it and you have two Syncable and (important) phase- shiftable LFOs to modulate the shit out of everything. Easily one of the most powerful Wavetable/FM Synths I've come across. It sucks the life out of you CPU though.
