I love experimenting with comb filters. I find they add some weird crunchy elements to the midrange. Also,I'll often use them in my textures/pads by attaching a weird waveform LFO (one of the random steps ones) to the frequency. It makes a weird sort of synthetic feeling sound.

With that said, I honestly don't know what I'm doing when I mess with them. I just tweak knobs, and sometimes it sounds good, and sometimes it doesn't. If it sounds good I keep it haha.

Formant/comb filters are one of those over hyped things that people think they HAVE to know (like bass resampling) in order to get their tracks sounding good. Just play around with it, try and recreate the sound in the video, then adapt it to your own tracks. If it works, do a bit more with it and get it sounding good. If it doesn't, try something else. It's a lot of trial & error.

this, pretty much. but they can add a lingering frequency to a sound, that just won't go away lol. so...i don't really use them on purpose. buuuut..on a bassy or low pitched sound, freq-0, res-127 (max) sounds fun. it yeilds the same results as doing that with a regular filter, but as mentioned before, it adds a crunch to that effect.

massive's comb filter not so much, but if you use a good one (GRM Tools is the one I've had experience with) you can get some amazing results, like boosting and stretching certain frequencies of a spinning bike wheel until it actually sounds like a pitched instrument. that's an example of how i used it in an audio class once.
