Speaker Problem

just got my first pair of (cheap) active moniters.

they have tiny 4" built in woofers.

when i turn the sub up it distorts bigtime

how would i stop this happening. I'm completely clueless about speakers

yeah they hardly give me any sub, so i tried turning it right up.

gonna have to get myself a decent sub woofer

then you're just overcompensating, and your mixes will be too bassy

or you could monitor your sub on some cans

is there any reason why music in general sounds totaly different on my headphones to my speakers?

EDIT: by that i mean like kicks might sound like they have more high end on my headphones compared to my speakers

lmao i meant like when im making tunes on my headphones it will sound well mixed down (to me anyway)

but then i play it on my speakers and the drums will be much louder than the bass, and the hi hats will sound like they have too much high end etc

well because you made the track sound good on the cans. You gotta learn your speakers. It probably also has to do with your mixing skills, no offence. Play your track on as many speakers/systems as possible then come back to your mix and try to fix what sounded bad, so that it sounds good on most speakers. You gotta find a middle way

my room acoustics must be whack cus i can hear more sub bass on one side of the room to the other
