Discuss about Benji B` BBC 1 Show ... tried and failed ?
Re: Discuss about Benji B` BBC 1 Show ... tried and failed ?
I dont think hes been that bad and you gotta remember on his 1xtra show he dint play that much dubstep so taking over from mary anne must ave been a hard task

I think people are disappointed 'cos they were expecting Benji to 'take over' Mary Anne's show, whereas what's happened is his show has been moved to her slot and lost an hour. Things used to be just right, I'd listen to his 1xtra show live, the smoothness of the music and the mixing was a great way to end the weekend, then during the week to M.A.H on the iplayer, taking notes on tunes that I needed to own. Loved both shows for different reasons.
Mary-Anne was a radio presenter, showcasing tunes and artists, Benji is a dj creating a vibe, it's just a shame we can't have both. Was a bit misleading of the BBC but who else could they have got in at such short notice?

Also I wish this thread title changed, been listening to the last show again.. This guy is feeling this scene and is ready to crossover (most important thing m/a did...)dopocc wrote:Last week show (Dec 2/10) was B I G ! !

As far as his previous slot on 1xtra, his best show for 2010 for me was Loe's Swamp showcase, which is totally relevant to his new show.
*EDIT: I think this should turn to an appreciation thread

im giving Dec 2 a listen. I heard HALF of his show - it was the October 20 one I think, and just didn't feel it, but judging by the tunes and that tracklist structure, he seems to be emulating MAH's structure. First, fresh tunes, then 2/3 mixes

Link for his 1 hour set on 1xtra is here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... ssy_Criss/
And here's the normal 2 hour show - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... 9_12_2010/
Tracklist for the 1xtra show -
Digital Mystikz - Anti War Dub
Skream - Filth
Kromestar - Surgery
Silkie - Head Butt Da Deck
D1 - Missin
Coki - Tortured
Benny Ill & Kode9 - Fat Larry's Skank
El-b - Buck & Bury
Burial - Shell of Light
Horsepower Productions & Loefah - Mexican Slayride
Benga - Crunked Up
Joker - Digidesign
Mala - Lean Forward
Martyn - Vancouver
How people can say that Benji doesn't know much about dubstep is shocking when he delivers a mix like this.

Yea feeling his show, I have no idea what there is to complain about tbh! Always the freshest tunes & he does tend to play abit more of a diverse selection than MAH. (no disrespect to MAH though, loved her show!) Bloodstream you changed the title to 'tried and failed' after about a month of play? Have abit of patience mate, how could anyone keep a job if only the first month was their trial?

Sometimes your trial for a job is 1 day or a week, mate.Plasmic aka Hanlo wrote:Yea feeling his show, I have no idea what there is to complain about tbh! But on some point you are right. The first two or three shows by Benji B were not too spectacular imho, but you can't blaim him. There were huge expectations and 'replacing' Mary Anna Hobbs isn't possible. Imho the show by Benji B is getting better and better every week and he has his own touch on the show like it should be.
I think there will be much niceness in the future for our ears.
Love the Darkstar show.
About the topic title, I think it's a good title. It mentions discuss and there is a ? after tried and failed.
Deep sea, Big fish !

The guy's a don. Plays wicked tunes and mixes well. A nice selection of music that all happens to fit in with my tastes. While I loved MAH's shows, I can listen to Benji's voice for longer than 2 minutes without cracking up which I couldn't before when it was MAH.
Re: Discuss about Benji B` BBC 1 Show ... tried and failed ?
Benji B, Rob Da Bank and Gilles Peterson are the only people who talk like adults on the entire station, almost everyone else is paid to act like breathless teenagers.I can listen to Benji's voice for longer than 2 minutes without cracking up

Let's be honest here people.
The first two or three shows were not good. Face it. But as many mentioned : 1) expectations were soaring. 2) He had to rethink his show a bit because of the shorter slot. An awkward start but since then, things have improved vastly.
The last few weeks have been particularly good. But I think 3 hours of his show is too long to listen to live. I'm visiting the iPlayer again to check his shows out. I think he's improving every week. Jam City!!!
