The simplest way to achieve this is to start with some white noise, then to automate a high or low pass filter cut off to sweep up or down into the drop.
i think thats it still... wouldnt it still sound.. white noise'ish though?

not if ya keep it low in the mix and eq it....

You could sequence some really fast shakers/hats/cymbals and sweep that too... In fact, sweep whatever you like! The sweepy sound comes from the filter sweep innirt... ;)

i would try to layer it with some kind of sine/saw waves with a relatively long attack and release.

Backwards cymbals (ride or crash) are pretty good for whooshy things on builds, too. Maybe pitch them down a bit or timestretch, add some reverb...

probably not what your after but... can you automate tempo in reason yet - i think you can right?

do a kick (or whatever) roll, automate tempo to get faster. export. put in sampler. position appropriately.

what i think you mean is like the doubling of the speed of kicks or whatever which is as simple as sequencing in your kicks at quarters then to eighths to sixteenths to 32nds to 64ths and then turning off quantize if you wanna go faster than that.

dunno why youd wanna do it though, sounds tacky as fuck.

He is referring to the drum roll, the build up you are asking about

Its easy on reason with the tool window, just copy your 1/4th or what u start on then use the "Double" button, copy-paste-double-copy-paste-double ect...

You can always make patterns where the resolution (tempo) is higher as well.
