Thinking inside the box: A complete EQ Tutorial

Post by panleft » Fri Dec 10, 2010 7:54 pm

Hello,
first post in the production section and all that..

I had a search to see if a thread had been made about this before, but couldn't find one - if it has, feel free to ignore me!

I have recently come across an article about EQ'ing, which has helped me out massively and think it will help other make sense of what actually EQ'ing is, how it works and what it can do for for your tracks.

If you've ever wondered why maybe your tracks aren't quite loud enough, or the snare doesnt cut through the mix like you'd hope it did, you must read this! Mix downs become less of a chore after reading this.

Anyway, enough rambling, im not even doing good job at selling this! But please everyone who is Producing music, read this;

Yo guys

Marc from dnbscene here. First of all, thanks Panleft for posting this on here. Secondly, just to clear up that this was originally published on dnbscene back in 2003, then when the site went down in 2006, Steve zipped it and put it on DOA so that it wouldn't get lost forever. That's why there's a couple of mentions of dnbscene in the PDF/zipfile, in case anyone gets confused about that.

It's still a cracking tutorial even after 7 years! And I'm going to try and get the infamous compression part of the tutorial out of him. A few drinks should help...

I've actually dug up another article about basslines in general from the same writer. Needs some editing but should be on the site in the next day or so.

Glad the EQ tutorial is proving so useful :4:
