James Blake each and every.

But also, special mentions to Addison Groove, Joy Orbison and Breach. (I know not really dubstep, but what is nowadays?)

It's a toss up between him, Kromestar, and Benga for me. Although most of Krome's quality dubs made/seen this year haven't seen a release

Also gotta rep Distance really hard. They've been killing it.

I've definitely got love for Bassnectar. Particularly his older stuff, and at the beginning of 2010 it looked like it was going to be his best year yet! Timestretch was killing it! However, this whole Wildstyle EP has come down considerably from the high bar he set for himself, and I just can't include him among the top dubstep producers because of it. ('Underwater' is a pretty tight track though)

Hopefully 2011 will see better things for Bassnectar. He is one hell of a live performer, blew almost everyone else out of the water at Ultra 2010 (except Skream).

Joy Orbison also made some great music this year. So many new and cool sounds from 2010!

What is dubstep then????? Snare on the 3rd, big wobbly drop and a sample from a film? I don't think so.
With your opinion you could remove a shit load of producers from this equation.

And of all the examples you use skrillex. Ramadanman encapulates more of what I feel dubstep was/is than 90% of the beatport chart

Let me put it this way then. Skrillex is not dubstep. You have your vision, I have mine. We'll let history decide who's right.

I'm a little confused...Why does everyone here have such a distaste for Skrillex? Maybe I'm just being an idiot because I'm not that well acquainted with I guess what's considered real dubstep, but I love his shit, it's so bassy and dirty. If he doesn't isn't legit, then what is real dubstep?

Dubstep is just 140-ish bpm music .. So its very diverse.

Skrillex is dubstep - just not to everyones tastes.

This debate has been raged to death. I can only give you my opinion.

Well the fact that you are 'not acquainted' with what you yourseld describe as 'real' dubstep might just be the problem right? People these days are under the impression that everything that sounds "DURTY" and is around maybe the 140 bpm tempo should automatically be bunched in with what dubstep has been for the past 5 or 6 years.

Clearly this is not the correct way to go for certain people, including me. For one I repute the fact that it is "bassy". Also, clearly it goes against some style marks that have charactered our sound for some time. Not to mention production ethics.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Skrillex shouldn't produce music, I just think that his productions demean the product called "dubstep" for a number of reasons, therefore it should not be marketed as such to an audience that is clearly young and uneducated.

Also, in my opinion, it downright sux. If I want to hear Durty music I'll put on some breakcore from about 10 years ago.

I find that tunes such as, Tunnidge - Geddeon (just to name one that coincidently happens to be in my sight right now) is infinite times more bassy and "durty" than anything skrillex dishes out at a rate that isn't worth mentioning any more. Originality has abandoned him a long time a go (if that was ever there...).

This'd be too hard if I sat down and properly thought about it, but Pinch and Goth-Trad spring to mind.
