Not true, personality is everything. :D:

Play your tune out when you're DJing. If people don't immediately walk off the dancefloor in disgust, you're onto something.

more people need that ass pounding ego rape and honesty instead of a bunch of yes men friends and purely positive people who won't criticize

heh i've had on more than occasion people not be able to take blunt critique and been told to fuck off my tunes are shit anyways, my friends like this etc by some random peeps hitting me up for some reason if they hate my stuff that much ;) -w-
if they got honest feedback from one of their idols they'd prolly be devastated and cry to mom and dad

Yeh - this was another thing I wanted to avoid - nothing knows the sound more than the label itself, right? Would be awfully embarrassing to be told "tunes are decent but not our thing" - but then of course this puts us back at square 1, trying to get labels to hear the product in the first place!
embarrassing? how? trust me, your gonna have to be extremely lucky, or wait a long time for a label to pick you up just like that.. dont be silly and send demos around.. theres Nothing embarrassing about that

oh well damn now i seem stupid... :6:

i understand the critique, i agree with it, i know i'm nowhere near where i hope to be one day. but maybe it could have been worded a tiny bit nicer? i read it a few times and the first time was brutal, but after that i started to see the positives in what they said. so it was good in the end.

but a brutal ass raping nonetheless -w-

Alot of good stuff here for sure... I might whip up a .rar folder later with a little .txt file about myself in there for good measure, and maybe send to some labels/DJ's im feeling right now.

Alot of it for me is not wanting to appear a spammer, but its come clear through this thread to avoid that all you gotta do is appear human and have a conversation rather than just LISTEN TO MY MUSIC AND SIGN PLEASE approach.

cheers guys.

also, for the person asking what style Im maknig now, its sort of on that darker 135 house vibe thats going around right now. Dont know how to explain it better than that unfortunately.

There are labels out there that are looking to help new artists. Monkey Dub is a great one for getting tunes out there. Just keep networking. That is how we got our tunes out.

I didn't mean the ego rape was bad, I'm not often sober enough to care anyways, but like Johnst mentioned, it's not quite butterflies and sunshine to hear your music is terrible, and it's especially less nice because a lot of the critique is coming from the tempo not the actual music, I have reviews on there mentioning as much as the reasoning. It also makes you think that the people who do like your tunes are Dumb/patronizing you.

It did let me on to the Idea that my music all has an unfinished feeling to it that I should finish it to fix... I was just saying it's a bad place to go if you're prone to giving up at a glare.
A conglomeration of my old tearout tunes I like, and my new ones I don't

well honestly expecting a quality unbiased review of a dubstep tune on a site called dnb[/i[/]scene...
maybe you haven't been in either scene that long, but there's a history, and i'm not talking a positive one or about drumstep ;)

Personally I haven't really seen much dubstep bashing on that site. My dubstep tune I put up seemed to fare alright despite being dubstep *and* a shit tune XD

I'm aware of the history haha, Place seemed nice enough though.

I Dunno, back on subject though, I have been sending tunes out for critique and to djs and labels and I haven't heard much back, frankly I'd love a board of people where you can go and they tell you if your tunes sound pro or not with a simple yay or nay, producers can often be too nice about it and friends aren't much help at all either. It's even harder because sometimes there's a point where you're pushing a sound that people just don't like.

I feel like I'm at a proper skill level to get tunes out, and I'm almost 90% sure I've had some tunes played out, but that doesn't do me much good here where there's no scene for it or interest enough to start one.

I must not be talking to the right people either because I never get to hear the mixes haha.

that's pretty much guaranteed failure right there.
