(Pinch) said “what we’re trying to do is grimey dubstep music with an experimental edge, and what you’re doing is experimental music with a grime and dubstep edge, so that doesn’t quite work for us, but it’s wicked.” And I thought, well I don’t really know where that leaves me – I mean, that’s what it is, he’d described it really well, and I think pretty much that I’ve continued doing exactly that ever since.

One of the most under-appreciated given the extent of his talents, I think.

His was the last set at DMZ ages back, with a singer, was the highlight of the night cos it was such a contrast. Interesting read, esp. what he said about music being made for anyone who might be listening.

Fantastic interview Joe! He's one of my favourite producers...you know you're getting quality, varied music with him. You're right when you say he doesn't get the praise he deserves.
I hope we get a new album from him soon.
I don't turn on Korn to get it on, I be playin Digi Mystikz 'til the dawn

extract:
...we went expecting a grime night where it would be a little bit annoying, MCs too loud so you can’t hear the music and what you could hear was distorted – but it wasn’t like that at all. The music was really alright, they’d put in a really amazing soundsystem in and Oris Jay was playing things like a remix of ‘LFO’ – things like that made us just go “wow… OK… this is new”. It was quite hard to get your head round in a way, rather than the MC being up front at full volume shouting, he was just there, saying interesting things pleasantly, embellishing the music as it were, and there’s all this space in it, this music is really poised and balanced and making full use of the soundsystem.
Interesting that Geiom describes himself as a producer other producers will appreciate, rather than being popular...
I've never really felt his tunes as dubstep but appreciate his idiosyncratic melding of influences & artistic integrity.

Well, that's the crux of it I guess. Someone who is highly inspired by a musical movement but has such a singular vision & range of influences is always going to have a complex relationship with that movement...

Thanks for this. Excellent wide ranging interview with a switched on and very interesting producer. Ended up reading the Cristian Vogel one as well.
More please.

Any man that puts out Spamchop and Hizatron tracks is a it of a hero imho. Also a sick producer in his own right. Big ups the Geiom...
