mate i love all your stuff, this one has so many good ideas love the little reggae vibe you got going, that midrange bass synth is large as well!

loving the vibes on this one, the soundscape/design's really clever and the tinny sounding hi hats suit the track so well, over all i think it's a proper lush piece of work man well done.
Grumblex wrote:Soundcloud
i absolutely love this, the odd wobble you put in every now and again makes it a little bit different to all the other ambient tracks ive heard. the rain sample and the vocals are such a nice touch aswell. again a proper lush track man well done.

Here's mine,

it's been a while since ive finished a track but im happy with this one, i've been told the bass is a bit too heavy handed, would like some more opinions on this aswell cos ive only been listening to this on my yamaha hs80m's, and it's the first piece ive done using them so i'd like to know how the mix translates on other people's speakers! cheeers!

um, so there were a few people i skipped cause they didn't leave feedback. not sure if they had already left feedback and were just posting up the newer version or what, but if you post something new you should leave some more feedback just so the feedback machine keeps on rolling. and with that in mind:

@alexvont: really like the pads you used in the beginning, give it a nice windy sort of atmosphere. cool idea on the sub bass line, but it sounds like it’s either over compressed or clipping, i can’t really tell on my crap headphones. see if you can work on that, and maybe make the midrange a bit more interesting since it stands in the foreground. or maybe make it quieter instead and add a higher lead so that the bass is just supporting? just an idea. good work though man, doing well!

@ElSonido: chillll sample haha. it’s a classic dubstep sample before drop... the midrange bass works well enough, it sound to me like it’s panned a bit too much to the left. i think that it should either be front and center of the stereo field or move around back and forth a bit, but not too much. also, maybe cut out some of the harsher frequencies on the midrange bass and layer it a bit. but i like the sub drops, i would say make them even louder :D also, some more variation would be awesome. maybe a melody or something?... good work though, keep it up dude!

@Lord Bidderson: the intro may have been a bit random considering how it dropped. i can’t really talk since my intros blow ass, but yeah... nice bass noises, you’ve got a few of them down really well. i’m trying to think of things to criticize to help you out, but in terms of mixdown my headphones are garbage so i can’t tell anything in that way, and the bassline is groovy, so i’m struggling to think of things. ahh! nice switch up on the drums. i would say make that even more noticeable maybe?... or not. it sounds sick. fuck i’m failing you man i’m sorry. good work! i dig the tune a lot.

@sprayyyyyyyyyy: really fucking cool guitar riff there, i enjoyed this tune simply because it’s so much different! oh, well, and it’s cool. of course. but yeah, very interesting stuff, the farty bass sounds really cool in the background of that guitar. maybe if you could add a sub in? or if it is in, i think it may be covered up. i’m not sure though, again, i have shit headphones. also, nice vocal sample. if you could do more with that then this tune would have a whole new dimension added to it. great work bud

alright, i went for some drumstep/175 bpm dubstep, i'm trying to get big energy and danceability out of this one, let me know how that went. also, any comments on mixdown are appreciated, and of course, just whatever the hell you have to say about it. thanks in advance! :W:

the bass imho is perfect. it makes the tune sound big and full. this is a fucking winner though, i was not expecting it. the drums kept everything really interesting and varied and just pulled the song along with groove. very well done. also, it sounds like there's a lot of elements involved but they all mesh really well. i'm very impressed dude, following you on soundcloud now!

EDIT: the vocals made me happy

i'm going to go ahead and say that that is not the best strategy, either for you or the rest of the people posting.

at minimum say that you'll return feedback for feedback given.

but at least you're not this guy:
feedback? read the rules on the first post. also, when you place the link, highlight it and click on the "soundcloud" button on the top so that it imbeds the player.

@Johnst - Hey great mix man, I love those halftime dnb tracks. The bass is pretty cool and fairly unique sounding so great job there. I don't have much to criticize other than I wasn't a huge fan of the intro, I wish that voice sample was louder and maybe it could use some more instruments cus that bass gives it a lot of space. But hey this is dope and Ive been looking for some drumstep, mind hittin me up a 320? ill def drop this on new years!

great atmosphere, very dusty sounding.. just gotta say though, loose the snare, it doesn't fit the tune and the way you've arranged the beat makes it sound far too standard sounding, a bit of swing and shuffle with some more gentle drum samples (clicks, woodblocks, good quality realistic claps etc..) will do the trick, maybe switch up the second half a bit.

other than that i really like it,
I total get what you are saying, about the snare it was one of the last things I add to the track, and was just a last minute change I did just before bouncing it out. Think I might do a updated version more on a more progressive 4*4 vibe.

thanks for your feedback,
3za.

I absolutely disagree on the snare. I think it works. I think if it was a bit louder, maybe just beef it up a bit, boost the 125-150 range a bit. I think that would push it up. I think the snare fits. Too many people want those "stab you in the eardrum" snares, but I prefer this, at least with this style.

ok im sorta new 2 this so bear with me :)

@ grumblex loving this one, not your usual sound but u still seem 2 deliver, very ambient and chillled ;)

@ johnst big up bro, gotta love a bit of drumtep, is say bring the wobbles to the front, there not really that clear, drums are good throughout, seems 2 be structured fine nd all that, nice job!

@arae87 not what i normally listen to but ill give my opinion anyways, love the percussion, drums are ace :) this tune reminds me of the others-splinter in my soul, same sort of style, good use of pads they give a really good atmospheric feel and depth, overall pretty gooood :)

@x902 ok i liked the sample and the way u brought the sub in, however im not really a fan on that bassline, its good but its not the sorta sound i'd use for the whole track, also work on them drums there a bit basic ahaha, especially that snare, its at the back of the mix being overwhelmed by that 'bassline' keep at it tho, the 2nd drop showed some nice variation

ok so now it my turn, im gonna post my latest dubstep tune as well as my latest drumstep one, as always feedback is much appreciated (good or bad) and just generally tell me what your feeling :)

dubstep: Soundcloud

drumstep: Soundcloud

big up, imperial

@manslag, sorry man, but that stuff really gives me a headache. I don't consider that music anymore, and i like Borgore, so that's meaning somerthing. :P Your production skills are great though, but i get the feeling you're wasting them...
@Arae87, lovin the samples in this. This is my kind of dubstep. Very original with your drumline, nice sub, nice spaced out lil synths. Made me think of some Joy Orbison song but i can't put my finger on it, love it though! The high synth completes the entire thing.
@Imperial,dubstep: the second i heard what song you sampled this off i was scared, but i have to admit, i like what you have done with it. Nice wobble, but i get the feeling it's a lil bit too dominant. I like how you play around with your samples, completely changing the rythm of the original. (better, imo).
@corpu5, nice man! The delayed snare/clap thingie in the intro could be a little more spaced out. I love the melody in general, but your bass fills up the entire thing. Real good one man. I'd pay for this one.

It ain't really finished (neither are my other songs (feel free to listen)) but i'll post in anyway. I'm no good at finishing at the moment. :P Be carefull, i'm still a newb.

Rmonik: You've earned yourself another soundcloud follower. Love all your work. As for Remote, the track. It's very well done, and well produced and written and so on, and I have no bones with the track itself. But I think there's a lot of dubstep that's sounding like this at the moment. It's not a personal dig or anything, cus its a dope track, but if I'm really honest, when it dropped I did sag a little and think "it's this again". Its an ace track, but maybe it's time for something new and exciting yeah? :)

Imperial: Sweet vox samples, and the sax thingy. This is very cool. Brostep or what. For me? Mix is over compressed. Far too squashed. The snare is just a flabby texture in there. No punch I'm afraid. It's a very well written track though my friend. Into is especially good.

Arae87: I didn't know what to make of this. I think the drum patterns are lovely, but nothing actually grabbed me. It seemed like one long intro this song. I don't know if you were going for a Burial type thing? If so then you're gonna need something a bit more flavoursome. For me, the production got a bit muddy too. I love how original and different it is, it just needs some refinement. For a track as sparse as this, you're gonna need it to be refined. Ace ideas though mate :)

Right, I started this tune from scratch this afternoon, and ideas just seemed to flow :)

Feedback is lovely thanks! Especially on mixdown, because I don't really know what I'm doing with mixdowns haha.

@RmoniK - well done for a beginner at producing mate! this could be an ace tune if you'd work on the drums a bit and put something extra there. the wobble is pretty nice, really. keep on churning them tunes out!

@Imperial (destination unknown remix) - don't know what to say, really. this reminds me of those god awful top40-remixes. the part at 1.21 is my favourite. the drums are not really my cup of tea, could use a little tweaking.

@JBE - this is more like it. really chilled and smooth. i'm lovin this one! the drum track is really cool and i love the pads. the mixdown is fresh and crispy. i'd love a 320 if you'd like to hit me up with one? i'm working on a mix and this could go well with it!

@Arae87 - mad decent work! really lovin the drum track. actually everything works really well on this one. the sample is golden. sounds a lot like martyn! same as with the earlier one, if you'd like this featured in a mix, pm me or something. excellent stuff man.

here's my new bit. all comments are appreciated!

yeah, well, the drop is actually something i made a while ago, but i started all over with all the rest because i wanted to try making drums and sub mixed well directly, without having to work on the mixing for hours after your arranging is done. And then i found it was actually pretty nice, so i just put it on soundcloud. That's why it isn't so long - the arranging itself didn't take too long. Just copied the bass i had before with the (self-written) wobbles.
Glad you guys like it - you may expect some progress too in a month or so, because i wil be switching to Logic (i'm using Reason now) and i will probably buy monitors soon. Now it's made with some crappy headphones.
