Letterman reminds me of Jonathan Ross in the way he treats his guests. With the smaller guests he has a bit of a dig, whereas with the bigger stars he's polite etc.

Letterman likes to go back and forth trading "insults" with his guests. I watched those clips and they seem normal for his show. Also there is a sign that faces the audience and it lights up when they are supposed to laugh at the lame jokes. There are plenty of better reasons to worry about us Americans.

letterman is a piece of shit but in this interview phoenix was performing in character for his and affleck's film "i'm still here". Really cool concept behind it, too.
