#rickyshatw

intro is tight. drop rolls in too unexpected imo... mixing is good! I prefer the snare a bit louder though... and maybe a slight punch in that kick. the structure is really nice and I think this is well produced... not a fan of that lfovariation though, quite cheesey in my opinion! but definatly a awesome job for a first try!! hope this helps!!

#dougriley

sweet ass intro! it's cool... but you really need a melodic pad in the background!!! strongly advised!! drop is cool... bass is SICK! not my type of dubstep but this is enjoyable! good production mate....

#thefrim

haha catchy intro!! drop is FUCKING sick bro!!! mad!!! gonna be nice to hear the finished product!!! best track today mate... I dropped a comment on your soundcloud too. can't really give feedback since this is way over my head.

#Grime syndicate
wow! I thought that was really nice! got me digging :5: thought it sounds like you are running it through a highpass filter?? maybe fix that... the major tweak in your wip. and this drop can't go through a whole song, you need some other drops too! gonna be nice to hear the final though! :)

hey guys, been a while since I was here :) anyway I kept working with this tonight and I really need some feedback! the track needs serious mastering! if you ask I can return feedback too!!

InfestedPasta, first off, welcome to DSF! i think you have a great base track going so far. the intro is nice, not sure what more to add there. i think you need to layer a subbass under your wobble. good job variating the bass LFO. keeps it from getting boring ;)

Hey, thanks for the feedback. :) . I Did add a sub bass layer though I'm not sure if i did it good.

@ infested pasta - ^^ bass boost it! :)

@ superginger - Epic remix man, but a bit taxing on the ears. Like you said, needs work on the mixdown. Loving the :5: though :m:

@rickyshatw - Thanks for the feed, Really feelin yours, except the switch up at 1.10... just kills your combo. It picks right back up again but it just feels abrupt. That and work on the mixdown. Sick tune, man :W:.

vvvv I've discovered I'm not very good at making up-beat songs, so here's my best attempt yet... Just a basic layout kinda, see where to go from here. vvvv

@superginger
Im liking it so far mate, i think you could extend the vocals so it doesnt stop at " ive got to' could be cus i am a fan of the original, meh, will be interested in listening to it once its finished man!

@predator-dustep
Think your snare could do with being a bit thicker, and you could maybe make the kick a bit more prominent in the mix, but loving the bass shuffles man good work.

@thefrim
This is just pure sickness man,my kinda brostep! think the vocal sample used could do with a bit of processing sounds a bit quiet to me.

Here is a chilled number i have been working on, kinda leaning towards the chilled side of dubstep atm, feedback is always appreciated and i will make sure i give it back to anyone who comments. Thanks guys/gals

@ Obzen, love that heavyweight kick, gives it that sort of creepy yet mysterial kind of emotion.
The little glitches in and out are perfect, I wouldn't describe this track as my kind of dubstep but I sure as hell love people experimenting with the genre, amazing work!

@ Alexvont12, I see where you're going at.
Seems a bit messy around 0:28, I would give it some room to breath.
Curious at the end result.

@ Superginger, been waiting for someone to remix that!
Absolute splendid track, can't honestly say anything bad about it.
at 1:37 I'm going absolute shitnuts on it, great work.
Would love a 320 of that one when finished ;)

@ Rickyshatw, really loving that dark intro there creating an perfect feel to the track.
However I'm not really feeling that wobble, seems to me, standard wobble.
Not meaning to offend you, Reason 4 user myself.
Really like what you did around 1:20 but as said on the your soundcloud, try to work around with the drum abit.

@ Dougriley, intro made my prepare for a Datsik/Excision wobble actually but my fear didn't come to reality.
The drop was well organised, pretty dark atmosphere around the track, great job!

@ Cheeky, Intro seems a bit long for me with not much variation in it.
I like the space between the intro and the drop, making the drop something worth waiting for.
Chilled and spacey vibe overall.

@ Thefrim, Hahahaha as soon as I heard the vocal I knew what was coming.
Definitely my cup of tea!

I've posted my previous track in this same thread (about page2-3) named Close But No Cigar.
However, considering i'm a perfectionist and Kaiori Breathe gave me some pointers I decided to completely remove my synth and work with more natural elements to feed the emotion and atmosphere in my track.
Used Reason 4 on this one and I'm feeling that this could be my first big track i've made.

Please give me some pointers, criticism, insults, whatever that could get me moving to make this one perfect!

Thanks!

Cubicle: Nice intro and sample but I really think you should remove the panned delay on it. Heavy bass! Sounds well mixed with the kick from what I can tell. Good job. Not keen on the piano and strings however, they seem pretty random and a little out of tune with eachother and the bass. Like playing in different keys. The dissontant feeling fits the track and the atmosphere is great but I feel it's a bit too much. Don't get me wrong, I really like the piano for example but it's the combination I'm unsure of. I think you should make it more minimal, maybe removing some of the dissonant chords. Other than that it's good!
Kes-Es: Huge track! How do you get the mix so clean? Oh, and I love that clap, it's so crisp. Big bass and wobbles which fits the haunting strings perfectly. Is that a sample in the beginning? Really cool anyway. Great bass, can't stress that enough, hehe. What do you mean not sure if you're going to keep it by the way? Finish it immediately! Ok, so some spontaneous pointers: The drop. Even though the bass really hit me in the face I think you should add a crash and do something with the seconds before the drop. A reversed cymbal/kick/percession, effect or just mute the whole thing the last beat. It also needs a lead element I think or a huge breakdown but the foundation is solid as can be. Great job and tell me when you finish it (which you must!).
sqwuabblesmynig: Strange intro, haha. Cool effects though. I love how them sounds as small cuts from something bigger. Not sure what it's called but used a lot in some electro tracks. Nice drop and percussoin work! Also how you've used the effects in the beat. Really cool. I think you've compressed the whole thing a little too hard however, especially the kick and snare. You should bring them down and bring up the bass instead. I would also use better hihats and samples that fit better together or EQ them so they don't stand out as much from eachother. Also maybe put some reverb on the percussion sbut as I said the arrangement is really nice. I love how you've put space between drums, makes it sound really heavy, without making it sound empty. The same technique Datsik and the like use which I've never managed to recreate myself. Nicely done!

Hey all, after a year of playing around with different sounds, I've finally put something together.

Hope you like it so far.

Thefirm - Yeah boy!! Sounds like it could be a hit. Personally I would work more on the first part of the intro. First sample could sound a lot better. Maybe add a slight delay/echo to the sample before the drop too. Amazing work though, like to hear more!

Superginger - Nice remix. The way the intro comes in works really well. I think a longer intro and build up to the drop would be good. try a make more variations during the main sections. i was getting bord. All in all, it has an electro feel to it, making it different. Good work.

Kes-Es - Intro is a killer! Id work on the drop more. Overall sound is good. maybe split up a few of the sections and drop it again.

Here's my WIP!

Merry Christmas!

superginger: honestly, im not experienced enough to know what to say to critique that. sounds too fucking good already.

johnny6: okay i love documentary samples. love how you chopped it up too. that drop is pretty crazy. not a big fan of that main high end wobble synth thing. tight track all together.

Grok: wasnt sure where you going with this until that part at around 0:40. that drop melted my face. im pretty much speechless. my only recommendation is FINISH THIS TRACK :5: :5: :5:

alright here's my wip
im no where near as good as the people i just gave feedback to but here it is lololol

thanks for all the previous feedback guys, nice one!

@grok - the tune sounds crisp. good job on the eq and great mixdown. your sounds are super solid aswell as your samples so good job! id say intensify the kick drums before the drop to add suspense.

@Kes-Es - straight up reminds me of some old datsik shit, like geko er sumthin. good job on ur bass tonez. quality bruv.make ur snare and kick fatter and you got a bangin track right there.

@ cubicle - nice chilled tune youve got goin. some of the things sound a bit off time though, and a few notes out of key but could be just me. add more buildups and some reverb on ur hats and snare and that should beef it up a tad.

heres my revised version of 24 oz, even record a bit of a vocal sample for this one :P not completely finished but getting there id say. biggups!

Grime Syndicate wrote: @rickyshatw: What's there is really nice. Some really nice elements. Really liking the switchup from 1:12 on, but it's still got some room to grow. Keep at this one, its got major potential. Felt a bit like a long long intro though, just my two cents...
So for a first post i got alot of bomb feedback, thanks alot guys. i thought yours summed up what everyone else said as well. like i said before, this is my first track, and i don't really have much of an idea of what i'm doing haha, i'm just trying to get a feel for the sound design/production behind dubstep. any advice you wouldn't mind throwing my way about song structure? intros, drops, etc etc. and i know what you mean about it sounding like a wicked long intro, i just dunno how to go about switching up the feel enough.

once again, thanks everybody!
