Re: Traktor pro scratch!
It's just like Serato except you can use FLAC or WAV files aswell as mp3, and you can have 2 extra virtual decks that you can tempo lock to your turntable cd decks for greater mixing potential

I bought serato and sort of regret it.

Re: Traktor pro scratch!
It's dope!! I got it a couple of months ago to play digital files with my records as I usually just listen to vinyl at home. It works great. I've used Serato before but I'm feeling the Traktor Scratch Pro. What's cool, and Serato does not do this, is you can use vinyl or cdj's for traditional DJ'ing style or you can just use a midi controller if you want to. It gives you a lot of options.

Re: Traktor pro scratch!
I have been thinking about getting Tracktor PS too...
I have a question though; Is it possible to switch between the Tracktor timecoded vinyls and normal vinyls? E.g. in a mix where i want to mix a normal record into an mp3 in Tracktor. Or the other way around.
I know it is possible to do if you use 4 channels. But is it possible with only 2 channels on the mixer?

Re: Traktor pro scratch!
Serato can play wav's as well, and you can play just in internal mode as well with midi controllers(no turntables/cdjs). The only downside of serato is the price, as it is like 300 beans more expensive than the other ones, however... it is the standard at most clubs, and it is farrrrr more stable than tractor, not to mention has next to NO latency. Also, if you are an ableton producer, you can link serato with live via the "bridge." Ive been using serato since it came out and love it...mks wrote:It's dope!! You can just use your DJ mixer to use it. I have it going through my Rane TTM56. You can also use a separate midi controller if you want to.thierry_le_dj wrote:will i need a special controller or i can use a normal dj mixer to use it?
Yes, you can switch back and forth between the timecoded vinyl and normal vinyl.Mehlovich wrote:I have been thinking about getting Tracktor PS too...

Cool, I did not realize that Serato has an internal mode as well. Serato has been the standard in most clubs here in the US, but it seems like Traktor is pretty standard in Europe, maybe someone that lives over there can comment on that. Traktor has been pretty stable for me so far. Price was a big factor for me. Traktor Scratch Pro was usually $600 but they just had a half off sale so I got it for $299 with the Audio 8 soundcard, as opposed to $700 for Serato SL3 which I couldn't justify at the moment.sirminus wrote:

One thing I don't hear get talked about much is the fact that Native Instruments has been in the DVS game since the beginning. They were behind the software for Final Scratch, which was the first DVS system on the market. They got out of their relationship with Stanton and focused on expanding their DJ line of software with Traktor. I think with Traktor Pro and Traktor Scratch Pro, they finally have something that can compete with Serato.

Traktor's timecode is marginally more robust and AFAIK there are fewer known issues with certain setups not working properly, but the difference is minimal at best. Traktor performs a little better at very slow speeds because the carrier frequency is 2kHz instead of Serato's 1kHz. I've heard of situations in which Traktor works ok but Serato struggles (certain mixers, grounding configurations etc), but the timecode itself is almost identical so I can't actually imagine what the problem could be -- could well be user error in the few instances I've heard of it. (This does NOT apply to Torq, which uses MS-Pinky and is therefore based on completely different timecode technology, which IMHO isn't great.)
Spot on - Serato is fairly big in the UK but I think Traktor is far more popular everywhere else in Europe.Cool, I did not realize that Serato has an internal mode as well. Serato has been the standard in most clubs here in the US, but it seems like Traktor is pretty standard in Europe, maybe someone that lives over there can comment on that.
I think the main reason Serato is so popular now is that Final Scratch was so buggy in the beginning, whereas Serato has been consistently stable. Remember that that was almost 10 years ago. These days, Traktor Pro shits all over Serato in terms of feature set and IMHO the difference in stability is negligible. One thing I don't hear get talked about much is the fact that Native Instruments has been in the DVS game since the beginning. The main advantage, as far as I see it, is the layout - Serato is very easy to read when you're pissed, so if you don't need the extra features and mix like an old-school vinyl DJ, it's a bit less cumbersome.

Re: Traktor pro scratch!
^that qbert demo was done at the time of serato sl1. i switched over to tsp from serato sl1 a couple months ago and had a lot of issues at first with crashing on my dodgey laptop(sl1 never once crashed on me)but i upgraded to a macbook pro
and once i got over the ni service center issues(by updating manually) my tsp is running great. and kontrol x1 is the icing on the cake for around $200. x1 is set up perfectly for traktor without any manual midi mapping. now that the traktor sale is over i would consider serato but still for the price of serato you could take home traktor scratch duo and kontrol x1.
