Distance is by far one of the best in the scene.

Fuck off with the "what direction is it gonna take" thing. The series has always been nicely varied between different styles from each volume to each volume and Distance smashes the style that he does and is easily varied enough to do a good mix cd. What he plays is also very much a core style of dubstep and he is one of the longer running figures too. I can't see what the problem could be.

If you're going to use 'big language', you should read the entire post before you start wanking. Nobody ever said there was a problem with Distance doing the mix. And that "direction" thing might just be the most essential thing in music? Staleness leads to lack of creativity and basically means the end of a genre. Dubstep Allstars, through several periods, has always been the benchmark for Dubstep and its evolution. Look at Ramadanman taking the helms on the previous edition mixing with new sounds coming in. Arguably one of the best mixes yet.
I also never said Distance couldn't play diverse sets. I'm just saying that his usual sets have a certain (good) vibe. Dark and old school : we all love it. But dubstep isn't limited to that any more. It would be cool if he takes this into account. If he doesn't, fair play : it will be a good mix with undoubtedly a lot of dubplates. I still think it would be a shame if the benchmark mix series of dubstep doesn't take this opportunity to branch out, in whatever way that might be.

I can't see anything wrong or offensive towards Distance by that comment. It i'snt even useless complaining (unlike some here), It's a fair suggestion. So don't start stroking each other yet.

I think that Distance will really up his game for this one, I reckon a lot of new/different bits from himself, and a lot of excluse.

For me Distance is where it's at for real good dubstep, but people on this forum really don't seem to buzz about him... Where as Ramadanman is not my thing and I preferred the Chef CD last year... Ramadanman's mix is still very good mind you, but not the direction I like in 'Dubstep'... But I haven't been into dubstep as long as everyone on here, and Rama seems to get a lot of attention for his forward thinking approach to the style, and I guess people always want something fresh and that's why that CD got boned.

That's the beautiful thing about dubstep and it's VAST variation...

But I will probably bash this, because Distance plays exactly what I like... Deep, dark beats and perfectly balanced 'hype'. Maybe they should do 2 CD's again and keep everybody happy.

I reckon there are Dj's that could do the CD, that would push a lot fresher sound. But not many that are deserving of doing it, and Distance definitely deserves it. I think Distance is pushing a fresher sound than Youngsta, but I look forward to both CD's a lot.

I'm sorry but no-one in dubstep is really doing anything that new to be fair any more in the grand scheme of things. Sure I'm still impressed by what I hear but this idea that anyone out there is evolving the music in any way is a bit weird to me, it's more spreading than progressing for me. I don't see how you can say that Distance isn't pushing the sound as much as Ramadanman was with his? 7 wasn't groundbreaking in anyway. Very good and Ramadanman was a good choice, but the mix was just a snapshot of what's going on in one area of the music. So I still don't get where you're coming from Joeki?

Wait for the CD, listen to it, and then you can discuss about whether Tempa made a good decision or not. For now, just be happy there's gonna be a Vol. 8

And as for Wolf. I'd say some of the stuff on Night Slugs, PTN, Swamp 81, Well Rounded, Butterz etc. is very much a new sound. Of course, nothing comes out of the blue so yeah there are influences from past genres and it is always an evolution. New sound or not? I guess that is down to interpretation.

I'd say that the labels you listed while kind of fresh are taking heavy inspiration out of other genres or styles from the past. Nothing wrong with that. Just I've been a bit confused when old drum machines and elements of house and juke have suddenly been thought of as ground breaking. I'm not in anyway complaining, just think it's another sound not some kind of way forward for me. I prefer the thought of music spreading out thanks to different ideas and people ignoring genre boundaries than trying to push some progression type of agenda anyway. Dubstep's diverse and the cds should just put out what ever is quality at the time and I'd say Distance's area of dubstep is really killing it.
