A DAW that works like reason
Im used to using reason and love it but i wanna be able to use vsts, plus ive herd theres a vst thats just like redrum, i was gonna use fl but i dont like the sequencer,
i wanna be able to work like i do it reason, copying a "block" or what ever you call it, then pasting and chaning stuff, i might not be making much sense but i hope you know what i mean. I just wanna be able to record audio and use vsts, pretty bored of using reason now but im used to working in it so the daw needs to be near enough the same as reasons sequencer.

Re: A DAW that works like reason
Ableton. Simple interface. I find it very quick to use. It will fulfil all your needs. Plus rewiring with Reason is simple
Re: A DAW that works like reason
best MIDI SOFTSAMPLER/SOFTSYNTH SUITE/ MORE LIKE A VSTI THAN A DAW that works like reason is reason :glasses

Re: A DAW that works like reason
I have Reason and Ableton and never use Ableton
Tried demo's of other and never liked any.

Re: A DAW that works like reason
The one thing about Reason you should know is that, there is no other Reason. Reason is unique, and there really has never been a real clone for it. If you wanna make the switch you'll have to take the time to learn something else. A good way to start is to rewire Reason into another DAW. By doing that you'll have some familiarity to work with. Then it's just a matter of taking the time to understand the DAW and you'll slowly start to phase Reason out of the process entirely. Or you'll just realize that Reason is more than enough for you and you'll either use it, or utilize both Reason and the DAW it's rewired to. There's no "easy" way around this process. Be ready to put the time in to learn something new if you want to use something new, the same way you put the time in to learn Reason.
Re: A DAW that works like reason
Like you may have already gathered there isn't any other DAW that operates like Reason does. I gotta say that the best move for a Reason user wanting to move on is definitely Ableton though. Dunno why but most people who move from using reason seem to go to Ableton. I myself have tried *many* other programs but the only one other than Reason I've really got on with is Ableton. Probably has something to do with the great work flow both the programs share or the fact that it's ridiculously easy to rewire Reason into Ableton and get the best of both worlds..
To some up, get Ableton.
Don't just download the demo and have a fiddle cos that won't get you anywhere, actually do the tutorials etc so you know what's going on otherwise your not gonna form a proper opinion of it.

REASON IS NOT A DAW IT IS A MIDI SOFTSAMPLER/SOFTSYNTH SUITE.
IT IS FAR MORE LIKE A VSTI THAN A DAW.
end rant
if you were looking to track edit and process audio clips, Propellerhead Record looks/functions just like Reason but is audio-capable.
It uses all the same devices as Reason. But no vst support. Cubase looked like Reason to me but I've not seen much of it.

Re: A DAW that works like reason
there aint really anything else that works quite like reason.
however the sequencer in reason is very very similar in operation to the one in cubase. but cubase is a bit less fiddly imo.
and you can use reason and cubase together (rewire)

Re: A DAW that works like reason
Wrong, reason 5 now has audio support. There's very little reason to buy record if you own reason now. It's more for people in bands who just wanna record some guitars etc.-[2]DAY_- wrote:nylle wrote:best daw that works like reason is reason :glasses

Re: A DAW that works like reason
deffo decided im getting cubase, still using reason i wasnt planning on finishing her for another music making program, but i do need an actual DAW cubase will do just fine, works similar to reason (sequencer wise). Ive allready downloaded the free ichy synths and im browsing vst planet, amazing what you can (legaly) get for free
. i hope me and reason can get along with cubase and alod of free vsts. Why have one when you can have a threesome lol.
Re: A DAW that works like reason
Not that you asked for it but seeings as your going down the free vst route I thought I would help you out a little and share some of my favourites as I use a lot of freeware myself. Personally I'd steer clear of the itchy synths, they sound kinda tinny to me, anything made with synthmaker does but if you like 'em then stick with it I guess. Just reckon there's better out there
DSK Akoustik Keyz - Piano synth/sample thing
Dblue Glitch - Feature packed glitch effect + more
Cableguys Curve - Cool little analogue and wavetable VSTi
Roger Nichols Digital Inspector - Spectral Analyser + peak meter
CamelCrusher - Distortion unit
GRevDelay - Cool delay unit but like...it's reversed.
NI Kore Player/Kontakt player/Reaktor player - minimal editing features but basically gives you a load of presets for these pricey NI products for free!
StringZ2 - Strings synth
Gtune - little device that tells you what note a sample is playing.
Atlantis Filter - I barely even know how to use this still, so jam packed with features it should be illegal.
Crystal VSTi - Very complex synth, don't really use this but it can make amazing sounds if you can be bothered to learn it lol.
Hopefully those will get you started

Re: A DAW that works like reason
i thought propellerheads "record" also allowed to use vsts now? guess it should be something for them to look into

Re: A DAW that works like reason

good stuff, still gonna use reason tho, i can use reason on its own, cubase on its own, or both of them together, im just trying to get a few vsts together, gonna be hard i dont really understand making wobbles, im used to subtractor with the lfo rate and amount, god knows.
Re: A DAW that works like reason
dont worry if you can make it in reason you can make it anywhere else, things are just in different places is allp3rt2k8 wrote:gonna be hard i dont really understand making wobbles, im used to subtractor with the lfo rate and amount, god knows.
Re: A DAW that works like reason
true that, you rekon you could help me out abit, i nead something i can sequence my drums in, something like redrum or the flstudio sequencer, ive been searching ages, i just want something i can sequence drums in, and a few decence synths.bum robot wrote:dont worry if you can make it in reason you can make it anywhere else, things are just in different places is allp3rt2k8 wrote:gonna be hard i dont really understand making wobbles, im used to subtractor with the lfo rate and amount, god knows.
Re: A DAW that works like reason
I can't imagine using cubase's ui after using reason's. Whatevs, best of luck.
Re: A DAW that works like reason
Lol, they deliberately refuse to integrate it based on the fact that they want reason/record to be all in one music making packages and to allow them to say that their programs aren't 'DAWs' and address a slightly different market. Think they also like the speed and stability it gives their programs. I've never lagged my computer in Reason and I've *really* pushed it. In Ableton though I have to tiptoe about to stop it from having a hissy fit...bum robot wrote:i thought propellerheads "record" also allowed to use vsts now? guess it should be something for them to look into
