That blog article on Burial...

Post by Devry_Kaneda » Thu Jan 06, 2011 3:05 am

A few months back, I was on (I think) Blackdown's blog, and i found a link to this absolutely insane article on Burial, analyzing his music and explicating some really heavy/awesome shit.

I have searched the internet for this blog/that particular post, and have come up with nothing.

Could you guys help me out?

Probably this. The whole blog is great. Same guy who transcribed Kaliko.

That blog post is insane, makes me want to give up music.
Hope Burial is well, need some more of him, but yet strangely content with what I have.

I read the first paragraph of that blog and just ran away from that site as quickly as possible. It ruins (contaminates) the music for me tbh. I'd rather not read shit like that, however well written it may be.

Yep, hes over-analysing something which doesn't need to be analysed. Burial probably just sat down and made some music, not thinking much beyond writing some decent tunes. No need for such hyperbole when your ears paint the only pictures you need.

it has some nice parts

"Instead of nouns there are pitched tones, instead of verbs there are harmonic directions, instead of adjectives there are effects like filters, EQ and reverb, instead of rhyme, assonance and alliteration there are melodic logics like ‘call and response’, and instead of punctuation there is rhythm"

Need doesn't come into it. You can read what you like into anything. Nothing is fixed. Art is subjective.

Not everyone is content enough with their own viewpoint to ignore the viewpoints of others.

i remember reading that a while back, pretty interesting but it's quite over analytical in a lot of areas, i doubt burial was as intentional as this guy makes out, reminds me of simon reynolds

edit: pretty much posted exactly what someone else wrote -r-

to be fair, i quite admire the way this guy can say that much just analysing burial's music, i remember this article actually helped me a lot last year for my art coursework, lol

I think its less of its what Burial thought about, it's just what his natural ability did, this guy just shows how indepth he did it.

Put it this way, an artist could paint a picture, and it could be amazing, but not thought about individual things, then someone could come along and analyse the colours used the brush strokes etc.
Same thing.

To me this blog made his music more magical, just proving his talent.
