Zurburan - 17th Century Spanish Realism... looking at this stuff is the closest I've ever got to understanding religious thought, I think... either that or coming down off ecstasy listening to requiems, anyway.

Also, Giacometti does people right:

olden days realism is a madness, scene as theres so many different styles in art now its pretty rare to find people that can actually do a properly realistic picture

i think i prefer impressionism and the sketchy styles though, only cause when i do shit its more like that.

im far from a perfectionist, if i make something i slightly like i get too scared to work into it half the time

just ...wow.
Maaaatttteeee... I almost posted this without clicking on the link. Rafael Monti! I saw this in the V&A the week I moved to London and spent about 20 minutes walking round it. It's fucking AMAZING. A couple of years later, I was walking round Chatsworth House with my girlfriend and it was suddenly in front of me again... turns out it was only being lent to the V&A.

Seriously, it's the best fucking thing anyone's ever done with marble. I really hope I see it for real again sometime.

Recently discovered Albrecht Durer. Really love how sinister this painting is. The guy in the top right corner freaks me out. I could never have it in my house but i might try and face his piercing gaze in a gallery.

Another recent favourite is Gerhard Richter. I love the ghostly nature of his paintings.
