Why do deep heads seem to hate on the hyped stuff so much?!

All these arguments and stuff just remind me of Punk, I used to get really protective cause it was mine, no one else knew about it apart from a few others, and when it became trendy I used to fucking hate it, now I'm a bit older I realise its all stupid. Same thing is happening to Dubstep ! who cares along as you know what Dubstep is then its ok really, allow all the beef alllll day on the forum !

haha im 17, now i realise i sound bare stupid !!! i was proper into it though, loved bands like the Adicts, sham 69, then all the old school hardcore bands like discharge, black flag and so on, then got in reggae through the clash and such then into dub... then dubstep ! ... still think i make a valid point though

it just goes to show how much of this boils down to simple perception... to me, bands like the clash, sex pistols, ramones, etc are old school and bands like black flag, NOFX, propagahndi are new school and bands like green day and blink 182 are just blah

I don't generally moan about it on forums because I know that's not very productive, but I can see why people who've been into dubstep for a while get pissed off about filth / brostep / wobble becoming synonymous with the scene.

Personally, I kind of found dubstep in the mid 00's, at a time when, apart from a few isolated pockets of resistance, the jungle / dnb scene seemed to have been completely taken over by formulaic big room friday night bangers and kill-ur-parents 'dark' stuff. Dubstep was a total breath of fresh air because it was musically radical and varied and constantly changing and because it was a very cool and relaxed scene - people standing by the speakers with a spliff in one hand and a red stripe in the other, eyes closed, getting deep to amazing music.

And I think a lot of people who got into dubstep at that time got into it because it had not too many arseholes and wasn't dominated by generic bangers - there were anthems and ruff heavy tunes but they didn't all sound the same.

And now it feels like a lot of the people getting into dubstep are turning it into exactly the sort of scene that we originally got into it to escape from. Which feels like it's taking the piss a bit. Like, it's not enough to just ignore the stuff that you don't like and go and find the stuff you do like, but you also have to accept that in a couple of years, the people who like the stuff that you don't like will come along and make the stuff that you do like just as bad as the stuff that you don't like.

Anyway, yeah, and all that, I'm not expecting it to change or anything but I think that explains why some people are quite so hostile to wobble tunes...

Seriously, I think there's nothing wrong with the anger when these things happen. Though you could always react with shrugs because it's just a normal genre-lifetime-span-thing, but then again, it still does piss off!

I remember the post Dubstep Warz period when there was big of discussing about learning from history - not repeating dnb's mistakes. It felt like this time a scene was conscious about how to sustain that golden age. So what went wrong? I think original players has alot of to do with it - some of the biggest players started to support too overpowerlingly jumpup/filth/wobble made by ex-dnb crowd. If this stuff didn't got support from original crowd, maybe there would be two scenes: original dubstep scene and wobble scene? Though I'm not judging original players who started to support this stuff, no, they've dedicated their life for creating this sound, so they have right to make some proper money from it.

The one point I'd make about the transition from "deep" to "hype" is that a few years ago when there seemed to be less of the aggressive midrange jump up stuff, I'd never heard anyone say that they didn't like dubstep only that they did loved it or they'd never heard of it. I only began to hear people express hatred for the genre when yoiyoiyoistep became so prevalent.
