Kwaito/African House
so, i'm far from versed in this sound, but a lot of what i've heard is fantastic, the beats are really infectious and fun to dance to

Re: Kwaito
FIY Kwaito is mostly the vocal stuff like "sister betina" above etc, as far as im aware
Most of the stuff that I really love and play is just called house or sometimes "afro house"

Re: Kwaito
some of the really cracked-out sounding, stripped down and abstract stuff is labelled Afro Electro, check out Stevie Boy !
diffrent lextrix always reminds me of that genre

Re: Kwaito
copped that tune Casablance by MZO Bullett but cant work out how to fit it in a mix, time signature seems bare weird, but im probably just being retarded

so when you're mixin it do you just keep it goin until you get to a bit which seems 'right' to take one of the tunes out or what??
actually its blatantly just knowing a break in the tune where you can cut to when its ready...

Kwaito/African House
really feeling that stuff, but hardly know any artists. any recommendations? those drums and minimalistic beats always get me movin'
africa's music scene is really underrated, not to mention the Hyperdub Boomslang 12''
I'm not even sure if I've classified it right, Kwaito is South African EDM innit? I could really see this stuff crossing over (if it hasn't already), more bassheavy tracks but the same tempo
gwaan so!
Re: Kwaito/African House
good call man. i've heard djs like Deadboy, Doc Daneeka and Gongon dropping this stuff in sets amongst house, funky and garage. i love what i've heard
i call it kwaito too. i'm in the process of trying to educate myself on this. names like Big Nuz have come up
this one's quite a smooth vocal tune but still great imo
hard to find on wax so far, but picked this up a couple of years back - bit of a classic
and got this on a 12 - would say it's connected?

anyway - by no means any expert - looking forward to seeing what gets posted here

cheers for that débruit, heard it many times but could never ID it. kinda dig that mujava tune too
Re: Kwaito/African House
I don't know much about south african EDM either but so far I love it.
Been feeling this one lately:
Proper tune and the video is wonderfully cheesy.

Re: Kwaito/African House
this would be heavy if it wasn't for the vocal, Zimbabwean funky:
keep em coming people, i don't know much about this stuff, but if there are other tunes like that Spooko one, then lay them on me!

Would recommend you to check out these:

This is mostly kwaito, from the South African townships, a compilation from 2010, mostly with quite recent tracks.

And this is my favourite, compiling kudoro from Angola. Kudoro used to be very, very dark (after all it was born after a civil war), but there are quite a few upbeat dancy bangers here. This one's my favourite:
