The report, which warned that the crippled economy and the election of the first black president were “unique drivers for rightwing radicalization and recruitment,” described the rise of “lone wolves and small terrorist cells embracing violent rightwing extremist ideology [as] the most dangerous domestic terrorism threat in the United States.”
There's no doubt that he was just another nutjob hell bent on destruction. I have no political views or agenda, I just found the articles I linked interesting and vaguely relevant.pkay wrote:dubmatters wrote:http://www.publicintegrity.org/articles/entry/2815/Two years before the Tucson massacre, the Department of Homeland Security warned in a report that right wing extremism was on the rise and could prompt "lone wolves" to launch attacks. This guy wasn't an extremist cell. He was a guy who was removed from his school and not allowed to return because he was mentally ill. The dudes youtube rambling are literally gibberish and likely the posterchild for being batshit crazy. He wasn't radicalized, wasn't recruited, he was mentally ill, diagnosed as such, and for the most part ignored by those closest to him. This shooting had literally nothing to do with anything other than a crazy person going crazy. Anything pointing to the contrary, from either side of the isle, is sickening politics at its worse. Rich white people capitalizing on a tragedy to try and get their headline in the paper.
At a certain point as an adult you have to be able to set aside political views and realize when something has absolutely zero political implications. This dude was sick and hell bent on his warped dilusions.

I'm pretty sure Brazil comes above the US.esfandyar wrote: definitely. the usa does however have the highest amounts of death by firearms though in the world bar none. something like 12000 deaths per year.
Really? How can this not be political? It was an attempted assassination for chrissakes... This whole incident was something brewing in his mind for 3 years after he attended one of her political events. You look at his youtube videos and he mentions he's angry about our currency not being backed by gold or silver. He's got the communist manifesto, mein kampf, and the republic in his reading list. He's obviously very anti-government. To chalk this up to pure lunacy is a sad dismissal of the reality that we need to learn something from this, because no man is an island and whatever kind of environment his mind was in led him to this despicable act.pkay wrote:dubmatters wrote:http://www.publicintegrity.org/articles/entry/2815/Two years before the Tucson massacre, the Department of Homeland Security warned in a report that right wing extremism was on the rise and could prompt "lone wolves" to launch attacks. How you get that I have no clue. That makes zero sense. Plenty of people who aren't insane can't comprehend politics, but that's not gonna stop them from trying.pkay wrote:You're attempting to say someone who is certifiably insane is capable of comprehending politics which is false.
